I have a suggestion on the front page of the Forum website.
We should get rid of the Moderator legends from the forum topic lists. They don"t need shown, since there is one on the bottom page. Makes the forum cluttered when trying to seek for something, I have slight trouble; and maybe access the sub forum from clicking the main topic for further de-clutter, though It"s not a big issue, since it"s convenient to access them from the front. What do you guys think? I thought of the idea on switching the forum host for a cleaner look too, but that might not be needed. Thoughts?
Yeah, I agree! It does make it a little hard to navigate and look at when they’re on every sub forum. Having one on the bottom already indicates the legend, so I think it’d also be cool to see them removed elsewhere
And put a like system too.
I think it’d be nice if, instead of boards showing WHO the last post was made by (when veiwing the main and baord indexes), if it actually showed and linked to what the last post WAS.
I don’t need to know who made the last post, having a link to their user account is USELESS.
But if I could access to actual TOPIC/thread then it’d save me from taking the extra step to going into the board, and potential sub-boards…which, consdeinrg that ctrl + click which, on all other links opens up the hyperlink in a new tab without opening it in the current, does not work on the pmu forms so whne i crtl + click a link it opens it in the current and a new tab, meaning i often have to press back on the current tab….annoying.
If that could be fixed too it’d make the forum a lot easier to use.
Also thinking about switching the forum to XenForo, but I already realize it costs money so contributions/donations would be needed, and i don"t think we need it, but it"s something to consider. It"s about as clean as a forum you could get. :>:D:
Clicking that little icon will take you to the most recent post in its respective category / forum.
Normally, I don’t hang around the Board Index, but rather the View New Posts page.
That way, I see what has been posted recently without going through all of the boards.
I’m not sure if this will be possible since our PHPBB version is a bit old. I don’t manage forums updates or anything like that but i’ll do some research and see what’s available in the last version. Although we’ve also been considering migrating to Vbulletin aswell.
Prefer the XenForo Layout. I"m on a forum that has it, even the bird forum that we both use. B)
I agree with this. I’ve been using a forum since sometime last year and it uses the XenForo layout. It’s much nicer compared to PMU’s forum. Especially with handling multiple quotes.
As for the like system, I’m in support of that as well.
We are currently considered moving to vBulletin 4.2.x.
An active license for vBulletin is already available for us - so really it’s just up to the admins at this point. However, we are currently busy with a lot of other things (such as in-game development projects), so the forums may have to wait for a bit.
No promises that we’re actually moving to vBulletin, though.
Oh, i didn’t realise this. Probably because this is in no way obvious that it links to the post (unless you happen to scroll over it and wait long enough for the ‘veiw latest post’ thingy to appear), being a tiny, very easy to ignore icon (I haven’t even noticed this icon until you pointed it out…) by the not so easy to ignore username.
Perhaps making it more blatent somehow would make it easier to use? If you choose to keep the icon as a link to the newest post, then make the much icon larger so it’s hard to not-notice.
So firstly…
I tried to find this option to see only new posts on the forum, and found you have to do an advanced search…again, this is NOT obvious that you can even do this…in fact i’m only assuming it’s an advanced search because on page you linked, is a link called “return to advanced search”…i haven’t figured out exaclty how to get new posts only in advanced search, but i assume it can be done.
And secondly, I am only interested in one board. This one, suggestions and contributions. I apologise if it is possible to filter only desired boards (like i said, i’m not sure how to do it in advanced search) in which case we come across the problem of it is not obvious that it can be done (again). And if it is impossible to filter them, then an option to filter new posts in only boards we chose would be nice.
IMO, it shouldn’t take a whole lot of exploration and testing links on a forum before you figure out how to easily access the boards, new posts, and content otherwise.
I may not be the most observant person in the world, but nobody no matter how “observant” should need to be told you can do these things. A forum, as a website for communities, needs to be easily accessable and have all of its content easily accessable. (And if i missed a guide telling me I can do these things, that would need to be more obvious too.)
There’s an FAQ section. It doesn’t cover everything, but it does explain things such as BB codes, icons, recovery, etc, fairly well.
Additionally, there’s also this ‘Forum Guide’ I made a long time ago. It’s outdated, but still useful and reinforces things in the FAQ in a visual manner.
Hope this helped. :D
