A Chance for the Banned

CRIMINAL: I guess it’s worth a shot…
Who I am. This is so that you are aware of the fact that I myself hold a terrible record.

I am CDQ, a very glorious man, but ofc there was that time when I was the opposite, in the form of Jay RH, a notoriously terrible criminal that got banned indefinitely around thrice already. Each time I got unbanned, I screwed that up. But now that this much is out, there are others who have been banned. Some of them were able to shrug that off and disappear deep into the depths into the Internet, others proceeded to continue associating themselves with PMU in some way or another in hopes of being unbanned, which may or may have succeeded for them. In terms of how this mass unbanning thing can be done, I don"t know, but I do remember a rollback or some event that “wiped the banlist” and thus allowed any and all to return.

I’m still banned to this day since March 08th 2015, and when bored I tend to visit the Forums to find some appealing-to-me thread to leave a comment in, and even more commonly do I go talk to the various Staff members in hopes of getting some kind of result. Since the New Generation of PMU occurred, I noticed some equally new situations.

For example, I am a very glorious man who previously did very terrible things. It is understandable that I am banned for my entire life unless I persuade the majority of the Staff otherwise. However, I gotta admit, there’s something pretty screwed up here…

Gopika is a guy I am quite seriously associated with, but not exactly including just because we are associates. He glitched some Friend Bows and wow, he got himself a sentence to prison that matches the harshness of my own. And I mean, banned cases take quite the lengthy processing and energy and time. Such that there is not simply “conversation time” for even ONE individual such as myself (and of course lack of concern for such a banned individual). So I figured why not give all of us that so-called “last chance”?

I mean, I have been banned thrice, and I have some VERY vicious records of tormenting other users and everything, but I am pretty confident that we all have changed at some point. For example, I was noted for being a guy who “recklessly created vigilante justice” that resulted very often in many discouraged, hurt users. Can’t exactly just wish all that away, that is something that remains on my legendary PMU record, where it shows its ugly mug as the “CDQ of the past”. So after some rather serious series of thought mixing, I figured that this would be a really simple thing to do. Simply to “unban them all” for their semi-final or final chance of PMU life.

Nowadays, it’s difficult to genuinely give a flying Magikarp about others online, whether they have a problem or have achieved something. So that’s kinda what I’d like to use to my advantage here. If a punishment can be given quite simply, then perhaps this “second chance” can be given simply too. There’s no real risk about it, a troublesome dragon can simply just be sealed away again with a command. It’s surprisingly difficult to actually free that sealed away dragon though.

It’s 12x easier to knock a tower down than to build it; probably because it takes one second to destroy a tower, and 90m years to rebuild it. In this thread I’m asking that those 90m years be taken to rebuild it, and those who destroy their own towers (the users who simply act bad again and get rebanned) to simply remain sealed away. Um, to be perfectly clear, I am asking that anyone who is banned becomes unbanned for another chance in the game. This will probably do nothing to assist and contribute to the community, or maybe it might, perhaps they may end up helping someone do something. You may even say this is simply to get myself unbanned; it is part of it, but it can’t be all of it, otherwise this kinda thing would be encouraged to be PM’d to a Staff member.

Can this happen? Can such a glorious thing truly happen for such criminals like ourselves?

CRIMINAL: I swear, Celebi, I’ll return to you one day… after I get unbanned, of course.

I am not 100% sure of all you have done but if you care enough to type a page of text you do seem to care so good luck!

… You mean “temp bans”?

Anyways, reading through this, I have to disagree with most points. Sure, people make mistakes, but bans aren’t given lightly. If a user is acting out of order, they are muted. If they don’t get the hint after the mute is lifted and continue to act out of line, then the staff may take action with the ban. And, while you mentioned that staff can “simply give punishment”, they have guidelines they must follow too. Bans are a serious punishment and are usually discussed among other staff members before a member is banned. It’s all written in the Rules and Guidelines.

Besides, we have those rules and guidelines for a reason. We, as users, are asked to follow these rules closely. If these rules are breached, punishment is delivered. It’s as simple as that. For example, exploiting a glitch to get more items breaks the flow of the game. Using something unintended to make the game easier is something that is not allowed in MMOs. So, punishment is given accordingly.

And while some people can change, it doesn’t mean everyone does. If someone wants to be better, they must promise to follow the rules of the game and get an appeal with the staff. Even then, people need time to learn how to be better, and that’s something banned users have to learn outside of the game. If staff were to lift the ban off of all banned users and let them roam free, how many would actually abide by the rules? How many would actually learn from their mistake from being banned in the first place? And what if, after they get banned for their final chance of PMU life, they do get better a year from now but still cannot join because of the permanent ban?

There’s a reason why it’s easy to knock down a tower over building it. You cannot just rebuild a ruined tower. There has to be work from the users themselves to rebuild the tower. You can’t just expect staff to magically rebuild your own tower just because of your own mistakes. If you make the mistake, you have to fix it. There are consequences to every action, and you cannot escape your own choices.
