chat channels

i know there’s been many threads on the forums about the possibility of an /ignore command, and i’ve read about lots of the downsides/arguments people point out and make on those threads, so i was thinking about another idea - how about we have chat channels instead, like there are on a lot of other mmos? or more specifically, the ability to turn on and off certain chat channels.

i agree that using /ignore on someone in a small community like pmu will make it seem like that person is permanently muted. having the option to turn on/off chats, though, will allow for both forgiveness and for others to not feel offended for being subjected to an /ignore.

some further reasons for the ability to turn chat channels on and off:

-some people on pmu just want to talk to their guildmates/friends, and being able to mute global/local when they’re intense helps a lot, so you can actually see the messages that are important to you.

-pmu is an all-ages game, and some people aren’t mature enough to not get frustrated or angry when fights break out on global/local. now i know that might mean they aren’t mature enough to actually step away from the fight, but at least it gives them a better chance - there is no harm done, really.

-it will never be permanent, because sooner or later, your friend may log online or you may need help, and you will most likely need to open up local or global again. it serves more as a short term solution, mostly aimed at global/local arguments when staff aren’t on, or ones that are just outright annoying but not punishable.

-i don’t think this would be too difficult to code either, so i hope it’s not a huge request that will consume a lot of time

thank you for reading, pmuers!

for chat channels, i think all we need is a Market Channel, you know, to sell/buy stuff

not sure if we need any new channels, per se, but i was tryng to get at the idea that we should be able to control which channels we see :joy:

i think the commands could be simple, like:

/muteglobal
/mutelocal
/muteguild

the undo commands could be the same command or just /unmuteglobal, /unmutelocal, etc.

most importantly those three chats - for communications sake, maybe it’d be better to leave PMs untouched. and anyways, if bad things are happening to you over PMs, that’s definitely you can show to staff.

Id love a market chat or seeing only one type of chat at a time great idea will help for those Global rants

This suggestion is brilliant as well the /chatoff <– Activates the trigger turns box off.

…so how will you turn it back on?

Maybe you could do a command that handles both on/off for less bother? i.e. /chattoggle?

So you hide the whole chat. How are you going to enable it back?

My reply implied using /chattoggle to re-enable it.

i think what theyre trying to imply is that with that command, you’d hide all messages, not the chat bar itself.

it may be more efficient in my opinion though to be able to toggle on/off specific chats so you can still see what you need to see.

this wouldnt be too hard to code, or am i mistaken?

What about a command to turn on and off each channel?

Like: /globalon /globaloff, /mapon /mapoff, /guildon /guildoff.

Would that be too hard to code @Art, or would it need access to the sourcecode?

Not hard, though I would suggest just making toggle commands (/globalchannel, /localchannel, /guildchannel and so on) rather than more clutter.

while were at the chat subject, can we have a normal text box? like we can copy and paste stuff.

I agree that /toggle commands would be nice, perhaps formatted like /toggleglobal /togglelocal and /toggletrade, or something akin to that!

Pleeeease I’d be in love if there was a way to do that. I’d also like for the text box to look … more like a text box, I guess? Because some users think it’s just part of the UI rather than a thing you can interact with.

Yep sounds good. Hope the staff aproves.

Shortcut and that would be amazing! although I’ve been told you need the source to add these features, rip.

I think that might change soon o:

Also, what about a roleplaying channel? so people can RP at the town without annoying the rest of the people!
