Dodgeball is impossible

Not with Ultra Balls around. It’s just a luckfest. Even on the first field.
Their range is too big, being 4 arc. It’s impossible to properly evade even if you consider a clear field with an imminent obstacle. (yeah, let’s forget about lag entirely for a moment)

= empty space, S = Staff, U = Ultra Ball"s range, P = Possible player positions where changing direction is impossible without getting caught

(yeah, sorry, the font"s varied width screws it up, try snapping it to grid in mind)

As you can see, escaping is impossible unless you’re out of that range. Now consider that the latter fields have serious movement disadvantages, like numerous erratic obstacles, sliding and slowing tiles. Also traps. And lag! That’s why winning in dodgeball mostly relies on luck. Ultra Balls really should get nerfed/removed. There aren’t even any participation tokens for that, all the fields take quite a bit of time, too.

Honestly, I think it’s okay the way it is. After all, it makes it so newer players have a chance to win because of how random the luck is.

But I believe that there should be participation tokens at least, from what I’m seeing. With luck like that, it would be terrible if someone didn’t get awarded for surviving for very long. So, at the very least, some compensation should be given.

I don’t think being new or not matters in that case. Plus, if it’s fine because it allows people to win without regard to their skill, that kinda defeats the purpose of dodgeball.

And like you said, dodgeball is more based on luck so there is no chance of winning with skill. I played one game with Poke Balls and that was hard enough. I would support giving Ultra Balls a nerf but then players would be out of range and methods based on luck would have to be implemented. (which is not wanted.)

An idea would be to go back to the Poke Ball since it’s a LoS, it’s somewhat more dependent on skill.

You can plan ahead when you’re against Poke Balls. You can dodge in time. It’s up to your reaction, really.

Before Ultra Balls were made, staff managed with Poke Balls. What luck-based methods are you talking about anyway?

Planning ahead is a skill, so is dodging in time really._.

I might have explained the second one incorrectly. The Dodgeball Field is a certain size. When the range of Ultra Balls decreases, players at the far back will be out of range unless Poke Balls are used. In a game where only Ultra Balls are used, the staff will have to warp around the field in order to be within firing range. In a sense, this would be “cheating”.

Simply put, decreasing the range of Ultra Balls won’t necessarily work which is why I approve of using Poke Balls instead of Ultra Balls.

Those are common skills, not anything specific to PMU.

Well, I never said Poke Balls shouldn’t be used. Though there are still cases in which Ultra Balls with a range of even, say, arc 2 would be useful.

I just think Poke Balls make more sense and are more fair really. There are multiple staff members, not one, so dodging is fairly hard but not as impossible as Ultra Balls. In a way, it’s logical since Poke Balls fly straight while Ultra Balls are “curved”. It’s very hard if not impossible to throw a dodgeball that homes in on someone._.
