Evolving Guide & Much More
A Guide on Evolving and Obtaining the HMs

Introduction

Hey people. It"s me PhantomThiefDark/Agunimon again.

I hear newer players asking “How do I evolve?!” all the time. There are no in-game hints that tell them where to look, and how to do it. I don"t blame them for being pretty clueless, because I was confused at one point as well. This guide, as the title suggests, is to help you evolve! This guide will also help you obtain the HMs released to this point! Amazing stuff, huh?

Part V : HM Cut

My Recommendations
-Bring 1 Escape Orb
-Bring Multiple Pecha Berries (Or some way to get rid of Poison)
-Be Prepared for Bug / Grass Types

Recommended Level: 10+

Now, to get HM Cut, we need to go to the dungeon that contains it. Follow the directions, and we"re going to start from Grassroot Town.

  1. Go North of Grassroot Town and follow the path.
  2. After the first bridge, there will be a fork in the path shortly after. Take the right pathway.
  3. Keep following the path, and there will be another fork in the road. Take the pathway up to get to Sourroot Cave.

Warnings!
Sourroot Cave contains 5 Floors!

This is a hand mapped dungeon. All the floors will be the same every time you come in here.

Sourroot Cave contains Bug / Grass / Poison Type Pokemon. Beware of the Poison status condition!

Pokemon In Here

Miniboss

Boss

The floors are straight forward, so go on until you find a fork in the dungeon. Take the path up to get HM Cut. You will find yourself in a room with three warps. One on the left, middle and right. Take the warp in the middle. You shall arrive on the right side of the room. Go down to the warp on in the small room. This will take you to the top. Do not go into the warp infront in the small top room. Instead, go into the next room.

! Boss Alert !

Miniboss : Weepinbell
Poison / Grass

This boss isn"t too hard if you can hit it hard. A few attacks should take it out! It seems very unconfident as well… Strike!

Weepinbell will drop HM Cut most of the time. If it does not drop it, repeat the warp cycle and boss battle.

My Tips
Do this a few times to get multiple HM Cuts. It"s helpful!

After you"ve gotten HM Cut, it"s time to get out of this place. Let"s go bust some Ivysaur!

You"ll be taken back to the room with the fork. Now, make sure you have a Pokemon that can learn Cut.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Cut_(move)
Check if you Pokemon is compatible here!

If non of your Pokemon are compatible, use that Escape Orb to leave the dungeon / avoid the boss.
Or you can try to recruit Pokemon such as Bellsprout / Budew who can learn Cut.

Go into the next room, and you"ll find a tree to cut. Use the move Cut while facing the tree to cut the tree! Walk into the stairs and…

! Boss Alert !

Boss : Ivysaur
Grass / Poison

This Ivysaur seems much more confident than that cowardly Weepinbell. Hopefully, he"s not too hard for you. Show him who"s the real boss!

Use Cut on the tree and enter the warp to exit Sourroot Cave.

Congrats!

You got HM Cut! In PMU, this is only a one time use. Now with Cut, you have newfound access to the following dungeons!

-Winden Pass
-Thunderstorm Forest
-Cliffside Cave

And these dungeons after you get to Winden.

-Sauna Cavern
-Winden Forest
-Crystal Ruins
-Crystal Castle

Part VI : HM Rock Smash

My Recommendations
-Bring 1 Escape Orb
-Bring Pecha / Rawst / Lum Berries or any way of getting rid of Burn / Poison status conditions.
-A Water Type Move / Pokemon.
-An Electric Type Move / Pokemon.
-A Pokemon with the move Cut. (I forget this all the time.)

Recommended Level: 30+

Now to get HM Rock Smash, we need to get to Winden first. Here are the directions leading to Winden. We"re starting from Grassroot Town.

  1. Go north following the path.
  2. Once you arrive at the fork, continue upwards, still following the path.
  3. Continue until there is another fork in the road. Take the path towards the right.
  4. You will find a tree to cut. Cut it and continue onwards.
  5. There is yet another fork. Continue towards the right.
  6. Go up the stairs, go and then there will be a cave on the left side after a few stairs. This cave is Winden Pass.

Warnings!

Winden Pass contains 10 floors.

Winden Pass contains Ice, Water, Ground, Dark, Normal, Rock, and Steel types.

Beware the Hail weather condition. It wears down your Pokemon"s HP fast!

This is a very straight forward dungeon. It is also a randomly generated dungeon, which means all of its floors will be random every time you come through here.

Once you exit Winden Pass, you will be lead to Winden.

The following facilities are here:

-Chimeco Assembly
-Electivire"s Move Shop
-Kecleon Shop
-Sauna (Free Healing)
-Lickilicky"s Unsticky-ing.
-Kangaskan Storage

The Sauna is on the top right of Winden.

Enter the cave, which leads towards a misty room. Take the ladder down.

Take the left path to go into the water and heal. Take the middle path to go down the stairs that lead to Sauna Cavern. This is where you get HM Rock Smash.

Sauna Cavern

Warnings!

Sauna Cavern Floors 1-15 have Zubats which use Air Cutter. It has a high Critical Hit Rate!

Slowpoke have Yawn, which can make you sleep after you press F two times.

Beware of the visibility level! Bring a Pokemon with some weather changing move!

If you step on the water, you will get the Burn status condition!

This dungeon contains three distinct areas.

Sauna Floors 1-15
Sauna Floors 16-23
(Boss on Floor 24)
Deep Sauna Cavern Floors 1-7
(Boss on Floor 8)

Pokemon In Sauna Cavern

Floors 1-15

Floors 16-23

Floor 24

This is a randomly generated dungeon. Watch out for the Grimy traps and the Poison Spike traps!
After 23 Floors of painfully annoying Sauna Cavern

! Boss Alert !

Boss : Rhydon
Ground / Rock

This is Rhydon, and he"s pretty angry about you coming down into Sauna Cavern. He apparently lives out his life underground. How boring is that? He"s been living under a rock! Literally! Go show him how strong “surface dwellers” are!

Warnings!

Magnitude hurts! Watch out for it! Use a Water or a Grass type move to quickly dispatch him!

Rhydon will drop HM Rock Smash. Pick it up and go to the warp. You will be led to a Rest Point in the middle of Sauna. If you wish to return back, go into the room behind to go to Winden. Teach Rock Smash to a Pokemon to continue onwards.

Warning: Deep Sauna Cavern is very difficult for those without strong water / grass type Pokemon. Only attempt after storing precious items at the Kangaskan Rock.

Deep Sauna Cavern

Recommended Level: 35+

Warnings!

Smashable rocks are strewn all over the dungeon! Make sure you can use Rock Smash!

Rhydon and Rhyhorn have the Lightningrod ability which negates Electric type moves!

Pokemon in Deep Sauna Cavern

On Floor 7

Another randomly generated dungeon.
… On floor 7 …

! Boss Alert !

Boss : Rhyperior
Ground / Rock

This dude is very, very, angry, and tough as well. He needs to be muted for Caps Spam. :C
His Magnitude hits hard and has a long range. Watch out!

Use the same strategy as Rhydon against this guy!

Rhyperior drops the occasional Tiny Mushroom and the very rare Protector.

Congratulations! You obtained HM Rock Smash! The following locations are now accessible!

-Mineral Cavern
-Mt. Barricade

Part VII : HM Surf

My Recommendations
-Bring 1 Escape Orb.
-Bring a Grass or Electric type.
-Bring a Pokemon that can use Cut.
-Bring a Pokemon that can use Rock Smash.

Recommended Level: 25+

HM Surf surprisingly more easy than getting HM Rock Smash. You deserve some easy work after HM Rock Smash. Come on. It"s only … 8 Floors.

We always start from Grassroot Town here are the directions to Mineral Cavern, the place where you get HM Surf.

  1. Take the path west of Grassroot Town.
  2. On the first fork, take the path west.
  3. On the second fork, take the path west.
  4. You will find a set of stairs on the bottom edge of the cliff near the path. Go down the stairs.
  5. Cut the tree. Continue following the path.
  6. The path ends at the beach. Go south into the beach, until you see a smashable rock.
  7. Smash the rock and enter the cave to enter Mineral Cavern.

Getting here is only the tough part. You can always just run though Mineral Cave. It only has 8 floors.

Pokemon In Mineral Cavern

Warnings!

Mineral Cavern contains 8 floors with no boss.

Watch out for the occasional water type move.

Watch out for the Slowpoke"s Yawn attack. Makes you fall asleep if you press F twice.

This is a randomly generated dungeon, so it is very straight forward.

I feel like I don"t even need to lead you through this, because you"re probably at the end anyways. c:

Congrats! You"ve gotten HM Surf! It is an AOE (Area of Effect) move, and it has a very large range. This is perfect for training!

The following locations are now accessible!

-Southern Sea
-Harmonic Tower

… I feel this section was too short …

c: Less work for me.

Part VIII : Evolving and the Engraved Tablet

My Recommendations
-Bring 1 Escape Orb (Like usual.)
-Bring a Water or Grass type.
-Bring many Apples.
-Bring Pecha Berries.
-A Pokemon with Cut.

To evolve (which you would definitively want to do) you have to do many confusing things. Maaaaany confusing things I say. Let"s start out at Grassroot Town. The directions are below.

  1. Take the path west from Grassroot Town.
  2. On the first fork, take the bottom path.
  3. On the second fork, take the upper path.
  4. You see cuttable trees. Cut them, and continue onward on the path.
  5. Follow the path, and follow it onto the cliff filled beach. (Rattata filled too. :C )
  6. Enter the cave in the cliff. Hence the name Cliffside Cave.

Pokemon In Cliffside Cave

Warnings!

Diglett have the ability Arena Trap which immobilizes you. Which makes you unable to move. Press F multiple times to free yourself.

Arena Trap combined with Geodude"s Magnitude equals extreme damage. It"s painstakingly annoying. Make sure you have some good Water or Grass type moves to get rid of them.

It"s dark in here! Beware!

The dungeon is much harder than the boss, don"t worry.

This is another randomly generated dungeon. I don"t need to lead you through the floors! c:

! Boss Alert !

Boss : Golem

This guy doesn"t seem to like you. He might be the boss of this dungeon, but you can beat him … LIKE A BOSS.

Any long range move is pretty useful against this guy. He"s weaaaak. Probably weak as a Geodude in the dungeon. :C Make easy work of him! Go!

Before you step into the warp. Avoid it and press Enter on the sparkle on the wall. This will let you get the Engraved Tablet.

After that, leave.

Now to go to Luminous Chamber. I told you it was complicated. You do not need Cut, Rock Smash, or Surf. You just need the Engraved Tablet and a Pokemon ready to evolve.
We start from Grassroot Town. Follow the directions below.

  1. Take the path west of Grassroot Town.
  2. At the first fork, take the path below.
  3. At the second fork, take the path below.
  4. Continue on the path till it leads you do some sort of ladder. Go down it.
  5. This leads you to some stony structure. Go towards the sparkle on the wall, and press Enter. Your Engraved Tablet shall react to the wall.
  6. Go up until you see a ton of sparkles. Enter the sparkly light, and you shall evolve!

… It was confusing. :>

But …

Congratulations! You finally evolved after all that hard work! You deserved it! Now … Go on, recommend this guide to those who wish to evolve, and help others! Good luck and best wishes for your future journey!

Thank you for all the positive feedback and suggestions!

Great guide Aguni!
It is has great humor as well as information! haha
I am like halfway through a guide, but I never finished it xD
Btw, I think this should be moved to Game Guides, rather than support.

Great guide! This would’ve been pretty helpful when I started out (just a month ago, and I’ve only played about 6 times XD).
A few questions:

  1. Why do you think they changed the move relearning requirement to 500 Poke, and what are Tinymushrooms used for now?
  2. How do you get Big Mushrooms for pre-evolution moves?
  3. Is there a quick key for using your equipped item? It says so in the controls/commands guide, but I tried it and nothing happened :(

Personally, I for some reason kept my mudkip at lv. 16 the first time I went to Cliffside (probably to save tinymushrooms later on). I used my poliwag (lv. 25) instead, along with my rattata (lv. 19).

Anyway, again, great guide! Although you might want to mention how to get cut (and rock smash?)

^.^’ Sorry, couldn’t find the Game Guides section. (I failed!)

I’ll keep working on this, I hope it does help people!

@antimony/phosphate5

  1. In the real PMD games, you can link moves for 500 Poke. :/ So, I guess this is where they got it from. (Plus its from the same shop thing.)

  2. Big Mushrooms are unobtainable at the moment.

3 To use your equip item, go to your bag. Select the item with Enter, and then select Equip. The item will be highlited in yellow. (Note only some items actually boost your stats.) Your stats (Top right) might change! (Get higher.)

A nice guide, this should help a few people x3

Thanks! Imma add how to get HM Rock Smash sooner or later! :D

Lol, well let’s just make sure when you do the Rock Smash part that new players won’t go straight to there and spam “How do I get to the sauna???” like past experiences =P

Yes… xD

Fixed a few picture links for you, you need the -direct- links to the picutres, as opposed to the link that views the picture on the site.

Thanks Dandy!

Agunimon, I made a little guide on my own to add on to yours. I hope you don’t mine~ It’s under game guides of course lol X)

;D Sure thing Wise~!

Lol. You did add it to your guide~ Well thanks. X)

Welcome~
