You wake up in a dark room.
Humans surround you, staring at you from the shadows. A light flickers on, and you see medical equipment all around, jumbled with a few machines that look like they belong in a mad scientist’s laboratory. A sense of dread fills the air.
It’s time for your testing.
Here at Biotek Laboratories, Pokémon are taken from every corner of the world and brought here to be tested upon. They are given new powers, types, even body parts. It’s all to test new equipment and new “medicines” for Pokémon trainers. Rare Candies? Originated here. All those stat-increasing items? Started out as an idea in this facility. But of course, failure is unavoidable at first, so they test their products on us. Recently, they’ve been tweaking the ideas of changing typings, movesets, and a variety of other things…
So, they experiment on us, and force us to be changed against our will. Then, as if that weren’t enough, they stick us in a little room, complete with glass so they can observe us. Then comes the worst part; the majority of our sorry little lives is spent fighting each other in a virtual arena, an illusion caused by a set of armor we all wear. I don’t know exactly how they work, but they manage to create a simulated world that they have full control over, one perfect for us to fight in. Somehow, we get actually injured as well; I guess the armor penetrates our skin whenever we get hit. But whatever happens, we fight, and if we don’t… well, they take you away. No disobedient Pokémon has ever returned.
There are only three rules here; don’t hurt the scientists, don’t fight in the Testing Chamber(the room we live in when we’re not fighting), and NEVER remove your armor without permission. So anything’s fair game; you can die here in a snap, and not only would no one care, but the Scientists would replace you with a clone. There is no such thing as mercy in this world.
So what about you? Maybe you were good, and so were promoted to the Assistant level, helping the scientists. Perhaps you’re scum like me, spending your life fighting, unsure of if you’ll live to see tomorrow. Perhaps you were even born here, a clone of some deceased Test Subject. Or maybe, you’re waiting to rebel, searching for the light that must be out there somewhere…
Because you know there must be a paradise. A place where freaks like you and me can be safe, a world where we can all be happy. And we strive to live for that paradise, the fleeting hope that maybe, there’s a place that’s not as horrible as this…
Paradise IS out there, and we WILL find it. You can’t stop us now.
So, have you ever wanted to play in a Lab RP? A place where your run-of-the-mill “oddball” characters would fit in perfectly? Now’s your chance! You can play as either one of the Test Subjects or an Assistant. A little explanation is below.
Some explanations before we begin~
[spoilerEXPLANATIONS:1snlybgx]First off, the Testing Chamber. It has food, water, threadbare beds, several pedestals where our testing equipment is stored(the ones that cause the illusion of the arena), and a large machine taking up the back wall with a bunch of lights and knobs that don"t seem to do anything. Assistants don"t stay here, but instead in a simple room with a lot of beds. Comfortable beds, if I do say so myself. Because they have free access to anything in the laboratory except the exit, they can get their own food, water and entertainment elsewhere.
Next, the arena. It"s basically like a big video game, but it circles around you, and you can react with it as if it were real. We all wear armor that translates our movements into motions in the arena, and the armor has a built-in battle system that will hurt us if we"re hit. It"s about as real as you can get without being real. Oh, and the Scientists and Assistants have full control over what happens in the arena, but an Assistant can be demoted or even killed if they misuse that privilege. As you can see, we"re pretty strict here.
Now, as for Paradise… everyone has their own ideas of it. One of the most common involves either Mewtwo, Genesect, or even both, watching over it, due to them being “freaks” like us. But really, the description of Paradise is up to your character :3

CHARACTERS
[spoilerRESTRICTIONS:1snlybgx]Your character may have any type you like, as long as it"s two or less. They may also have any moves you like; up to six. One of these can be an Egg move, and one can be a TM move. If your Pokémon is a different typing, you may feel free to change their moveset and TM moves, although Egg moves can"t change. Moves don"t have to correspond with levels, either! They may also have any ability. However, limit your character, please! We don"t want any Mary-Sues running about the place, do we?
[/details]
[spoilerTEST SUBJECTS:1snlybgx]These are the Pokémon who have been experimented on, and are changed in some way, shape or form. They are usually treated like mindless beasts by the Scientists and Assistants alike, although a lot of Assistants remember that they were Test Subjects once, and so try to help them. Test Subjects are usually rebellious and disobedient, or they would have been promoted to the Assistant level. Occasionally, a Pokémon will be held back from being promoted due to their appearance or alteration; these are usually robots, cyborgs and clones.
[/details]
[spoilerASSISTANTS:1snlybgx]Used to aid the Scientists, Assistants are treated much better due to their behavior, but are often still considered “things”, as they were all Test Subjects once. Well, most of them. As a result, most of them have some sort of quirk, and it would be impossible to tell them apart from an ordinary Test Subject. They are much more well-behaved than Test Subjects for the most part.

[spoilerEXAMPLES:1snlybgx]ELSE
[ask:1snlybgx]NAME: Else
GENDER: Female
SPECIES: Volcarona
TYPE: Bug/Fire
ABILITY: Flame Body
MOVES: Silver Wind, Quiver Dance, Heat Wave, Hurricane, Overheat, Zen Headbutt
ALTERATION: Cyborg
CLASS: Test Subject
PERSONALITY: Very sweet, kind, and motherly, Else is the kind of Pokémon you would LEAST expect to still be a Test Subject. However, because she is a cyborg, she was refused promotion. As a result, she is very rebellious when it comes to fighting, and refuses to actually attack. She would much rather form alliances and be the healer of the group, although she"s not perfect. However, she is very mentally and physically unstable as any machine, and occasionally malfunctions, lashing out at anything and everything in her way. She is very gullible, and too quick to trust.
APPEARANCE: Most of her robotic parts that come with being a cyborg are within her exoskeleton. Her right eye has been removed and replaced with a piece of clear plastic, with a badly hidden camera behind it that sends images to her brain as good as any eye, if not better. Her wings are fireproof cloth that are a bit hardier than her original wings, attached to her by a set of wires and metal rods that disappear into her back. Her legs are replaced with segmented metal, sharpened at the end.
HISTORY: Else was born in an Unovan colony of Volcarona and Larvesta, and lived there with her family for the first part of her life. Young Larvesta were prohibited from leaving the colony, but Else was a curious young Pokémon, and strayed from her family to explore. While she was out, she met a trainer who, like any trainer, wanted to and did capture this rare Pokémon. It turned out that the trainer lived in Johto, and was on vacation in Unova. He returned to his hometown with Else soon after capturing her.
It turned out that the trainer was the father of a young boy, and he gave Else to him as a birthday gift. The boy named her Sol, and while she hated him at first, she quickly grew to like him, and the two formed a close bond. They grew up together, and there was never a moment they were apart.
When it came time for the boy to start his journey as a trainer, Sol became his first and main Pokémon. The two were as inseparable as they had been as friends. They added new Pokémon to their team as they traveled, but none came close to being as attached to the boy as Sol was. By the time Sol was level thirty, they had already gotten five Gym Badges.
But Team Rocket was at large in the Johto region. They had their eyes on Sol the moment they saw her; she was not only a rare Pokémon, but from the Unova region! They managed to steal her from her trainer, and she was taken to their hideout.
Not long after, the Rocket Hideout was uncovered, and the Pokémon freed. Some were reunited with their trainers, others were released, but Sol was one of the unlucky ones. Her trainer was nowhere to be found, and rather than being released, the infamous Biotek picked her up.
She was traumatized at first, wondering why she was here and not with her trainer. The other Pokémon told her what was going to happen to her, but she never payed attention, too depressed to care…
It wasn"t until her time to be tested on that she finally realized; she might never see daylight again if she didn"t hightail out of here, much less her trainer. But it was too late now, and she accepted her fate.
She woke up as a Volcarona, forced to evolve early. She felt… different, and she realized that she was no longer completely organic… She was no longer herself.
Sol was something Else now.
TRIVIA: Else has mechanisms within her body that strengthen her Fire-type attacks, but her other attacks are somewhat weakened.
Overheat causes her to “crash”, or become temporarily immobile, so she uses it VERY sparingly.[/ask:1snlybgx]
THUNDER
[ask:1snlybgx]NAME: Thunder
GENDER: Female
SPECIES: Raichu
TYPE: Water
ABILITY: Torrent
MOVES: Water Gun, Hydro Pump, Taunt, Dive, Swagger, Fake Out
ALTERATION: Type, moveset, ability and appearance changes[although appearance was a combination of surgical operations, natural morphing and the side affect markings that come with the cloning process]. She is also the clone of a deceased test subject by the same name.
CLASS: Test Subject
PERSONALITY: The only thing that"s stayed the same about her is that she was always a rebel at heart.
While cloning can produce identical traits physically, mental traits are yet to be reproductive. Thunder was once a sweet, innocent Raichu who had just emerged from the cloning chambers, trusting and kind to everyone, while at the same time horribly naïve and sometimes annoying. But after spending several years in the lab, her heart hardened to all but her closest of friends, a rough-barked tree if you didn"t have the right tools to dig into the soft wood. She"s horribly sarcastic and acts higher than everyone else, scowling “down” at even assistants on the observation deck. When they"re not looking, of course. Battling for her is a love-hate relationship; she loves to fight, especially when it means she can taunt others while doing so, but she despises doing what the scientists want, so she finds little loopholes that they can"t hurt her for, but she still gets her revenge. However, she still has her soft spots, and almost never kills. Almost.
APPEARANCE: While her overall coloration hasn"t changed, her appearance has quite a bit. She lacks the electric cheek pouches Raichus are famous for, as they were removed to avoid her electrocuting herself with her newfound Water typing. They were originally going to replace them with blue substitutes, but decided it looked bad and opted against it. Her tail, as a natural mutation to cope with her typing, is now paddle-shaped at the end, almost like a water droplet. It also allows her increased swimming ability. Her ears are less curved and more triangular, while the curl at the lower tips is replaced with a triangular spiral. The brown patches on her arms and feet are jagged at the edges.
HISTORY: From the very beginning, Thunder never knew she was a clone. She still doesn"t. If she knew, it might drive her crazy; she strives to be unique, so being a copy would make her outright enraged. Of course, she was fed with false explanations; that she had suffered from Amnesia, and so had been brought here. She considered herself rescued, and was happy because of it. Once, she loved the scientists, but a series of later events caused her to despise them with every fiber of her being.
When she first entered the testing chamber, she met Placid the Umbreon. Placid took her under his wing and taught her about everything, while everyone else either neglected her or exploited her naïvety to their own gain in the arena. To this day, she doesn"t understand why he was so kind, but the two have become close friends despite his secretive nature. He knows very well Thunder is a clone, but always dances around anything that might reveal it for fear of breaking her.
Together, battles were won and lost, traitors were met and defeated, but through all, the pair has remained inseparable. When Placid was recently promoted to Assistant level, a status they had both been working towards for a while, Thunder became ever more determined to reach it and then, with the help of some friends, turn around and help bring Biotek to the ground.
She"s this close to doing it.
TRIVIA: Thunder has a secret wish that she could have been a Fire-type rather than a Water-type.
She likes it when things explode.
She tends to fight more with her tongue than her moves, and as such has “taught” herself the move Taunt, as well as Swagger.[/ask:1snlybgx]
PLACID
[answer:1snlybgx]NAME: Placid
GENDER: Male
SPECIES: Umbreon
TYPE: Dark
ABILITY: Synchronize
MOVES: Moonlight, Last Resort, Mimic, Assist, Shadow Ball, Detect
ALTERATION: Moveset alteration, DNA alteration
CLASS: Assistant
PERSONALITY: Placid is, as his name suggests, a very calm creature. He hates fighting and arguments, and rather than battle in the arena, he tends to stick around his allies and help them the best he can. He"s a bit wary and overprotective of those he truly trusts, but he"s fairly easy to work with as long as you don"t mind an eye worthy of a Pidgeot keeping close watch on you. While he almost never battles now other than the odd Assistant tournament that happens every once in a while, he still keeps himself as fit as possible for a possible rebellion later, although he claims it"s because he hates being out of shape. Placid tends to overly express his emotions at times, in stark contrast to his partner and best friend, Thunder.
APPEARANCE: While it"s a purely natural discoloration, Placid is albino. His fur is white, and his eyes are the color of a Zangoose. His rings glow a dull pink color at will, like a normal Umbreon"s would glow yellow, but his fur underneath is plain white. He has a scar across his right cheek, although it doesn"t show much because his skin is as white as his fur.
HISTORY: Placid, being white, was mistaken for a shiny Eevee when he was first spotted by Biotek.
Of course, since shiny Pokémon were rare but highly sought after, most serious trainers owned at least one. As a result of these trainers pampering their precious shiny Pokémon, products for them were in high demand. While they were the exact same substances as normal Pokémon food and medicines, products were often advertised as being “only for shinies”, and were sold at a higher price. But Biotek wanted to know; did shinies really have a different genetic makeup, or would they just keep selling two of the same thing for monetary gain?
Unfortunately, upon the early evolution of Placid into an Umbreon[at a scientist"s request], they discovered he was albino, not shiny. Still, they decided that in the event of his makeup being different, it would probably be similar to a shiny"s. They decided to keep him, and although they changed his moveset, they left him unchanged for the most part and instead tested temporary medicines and prototypes of vaccines on him. His personality remained unchanged through it all, and he faced every test and every battle with the same cool, calm demeanor. They began calling him Placid, and the name stuck.
His life was uneventful for the first several years of his life. That is, until he met Thunder. The first Thunder, mind you.
She was perfect; beautiful, strong, smart, friendly, and not afraid to stand up for what was right, when so many others - including him - wouldn"t hesitate to target the weak, or play dirty when necessary. He fell madly in love with her at first sight, and she with him. They complemented each other perfectly, each covering the other"s weaknesses, and became an unrivaled match in the arena. The two were promoted from the Test Subject level for a long while.
The pair of them worked well as Assistants, too, and became promoted even further to a special status, one where they had control even over their fellow Assistants. It was then when Thunder came up with the idea to rebel, to burn Biotek to the ground. Placid agreed without hesitation, and the two of them stormed the place without warning. But their attempt failed, and while many of the Assistants and Test Subjects supported them when they figured out what was happening, the scientists and their supporting Pokémon outnumbered them hopelessly. They punished them all severely, giving Placid the scar he has across his cheek. Thunder, being blamed as the leader of the attack, was executed. Placid was demoted to the Test Subject status, and he would have likely given up had noth the scientists decided to clone Thunder. They had gathered insufficient data from her, and wanted to gather more, although they couldn"t risk another rebellion.
So, Thunder was cloned, although she wasn"t the same. Placid was her friend, but he didn"t feel the tug of pure love that he did when he was with the first Thunder.
But he still keeps his former love"s wish to overthrow the scientists, and he"s determined to do it right this time. At least if he dies, he"ll get to be with her once more.
TRIVIA: Placid is very sensitive about his past, and that can be an easy way to get at him. Mocking either Thunder is also cause to make him angry, and is perhaps the only way.
He can sweat poison as most Umbreons can, although it is weak poison and he only emits it when he"s angry. As a result, it"s very rare.[/answer:1snlybgx]
WILDFIRE
[answer:1snlybgx]NAME: Wildfire
GENDER: Male
SPECIES: Manectric
TYPE: Electric/Fire
ABILITY: Flash Fire
MOVES: Fire Fang, Quick Attack, Bite, Thunder, Flamethrower, Shock Wave
ALTERATION: Type change, DNA alteration
CLASS: Assistant
PERSONALITY: Arrogant and Stubborn, in a nutshell. Wildfire is very rude to the Test Subjects and treats them as scum, even to the point of insulting them to their faces. He seems to be completely oblivious to the fact that he was one of the, once. He is very violent and impulsive, in both his actions and his speech. Wildfire hates losing, and will go to extreme measures to ensure his victory. This causes him to be ruthless, treacherous, and not hesitant to kill, which has earned him his place among the Assistants. He hasn"t been promoted to that one level past an Assistant, but he bosses the other Assistants around anyways, even those senior to him. He"s been going insane for a long while now, but both he and the scientists deny it.
APPEARANCE: He looks no different from any ordinary Manectric, apart from the fact that he"s shiny.
HISTORY: They really did strike gold when they found Wildfire.
Unlike Placid, Wildfire was a true shiny, and was tested on for the same reasons that he was originally to be tested upon. They were found at about the same time as well, and were originally good friends. In fact, they were almost like brothers. But something that the scientists injected into Wildfire made his mental state slowly begin to deteriorate, although it didn"t show at first…
Wildfire found love shortly before Placid, though she never loved him back, and she outright rejected him when he confessed his feelings for her. In his frustration, his insanity finally began to show, and he killed her in battle. Quickly, he became known as a powerful ally and an even more powerful enemy. Wildfire almost never failed to strike his targets, often killing them. But, like lightning, he never struck twice.
Slowly, he and Placid drifted further apart, which worsened Wildfire"s thirst for violence. His sheer power and recklessness promoted him to the Assistant level around the same time as his “brother”, although by that time they had become closer to rivals. As Placid and Thunder rose even higher, he became extremely jealous, to the point of siding with the scientists when the two of them rebelled for that reason alone. When Placid was demoted, he was berserk enough to try and be demoted just so that he could attack the Umbreon. His plan failed, although he got revenge by being the one selected to execute Thunder, mocking her with the electricity she now lacked and the fire she so wished for. Because of this, he and Placid are now bitter enemies. While not much has happened since then, he has made it his goal to kill either Placid, or that new Raichu friend of his. He"ll stop at NOTHING to achieve it.
TRIVIA: Never trust him. Ever.
That is all.[/answer:1snlybgx]
