Hello there, just your friendly neighborhood Six here to offer up an item idea~ c’:
So I have recently returned to the PMU scene, and today after many many runs through TC I finally found my perfect egg with all three of the moves I’ve been hunting for several months (on and off) to find. Just one problem, the Pokemon turned out to be a female and I was really hoping for a male. (Seeing as my entire team currently consists of males.)
I’m sure all of us have gone through that moment of finally having that one Pokemon you’ve been searching forever for, just to find out that it’s not exactly what you had always imagined it to be. Which in turn sometimes leads to more endless hunting to make your team perfect and just the way you had always dreamed it would be.
This isn’t an extremely necessary item, seeing how gender doesn’t really contribute much in game. (With the exception of gender based moves such as attract.) I just feel that I’d be more encouraged to train certain Pokemon of mine if I had control over what gender they would be. For example, forever ago I was desperate to obtain a female Kecleon, (because I have a female OC Kecleon named Lady.) but all I could manage to catch were male Kecleon. (I ended up with 4 or 5 males and the event ended before I was able to get a female.) So because of that tiny factor it greatly discouraged my desire to train any of the Kecleon I did manage to obtain.
It of course would be a one time use consumable item.
I don’t imagine that this item should be abundantly common but I also don’t see any reason for it to be outstandingly rare.
A couple names I came up with off the top of my head would be, Identity Stone/Seed or Gender Berry/Juice.
I apologize if this topic has already been made, I went back a decent amount on the forums and didn’t see anything about it so I figured I’d bring it up. I also might try spriting this/these item(s), if in fact this gets considered to be implemented or even if a few other people also show interest.

Maybe a better execution would be a consumable item that forces next recruitable Pokemon’s gender. Although changing existing Pokemon’s genders would be nice too.
The only problem with it being the next Pokemon you recruit would be that if you can’t seem to recruit anything would it carry over to the next dungeon you enter??
If so that wouldn’t be very ideal. Say, if you leave the dungeon you were in to enter another and one of the Pokemon you have with you faints/is sent home and you wish to recruit something but you’ve already used the (insert item name) in the previous dungeon. No matter what you wanted you’d get that gender no matter if you liked it or not.
Not to mention you wasted an item to make a random Pokemon a certain gender. This also brings up the problem of monster houses and accidentally recruiting something you weren’t trying for so the item would have gone to waste on something you’re just going to release or turn away on the spot.
I’d also like to mention that some rare recruit-able Pokemon are in areas where they can be taken out by other Pokemon if you’re not quick enough, so sending a team member home and using the item might take just long enough to cost you the chance of recruiting the Pokemon all together.
Plus if it was the next recruit-able Pokemon, would that include eggs?? If not that would kinda suck for specific egg move hunters.
Finally after making this thread I started thinking, and it came to my mind how some Pokemon don’t have a 1:1 Ratio when it comes to how easily you can obtain a specific gender.
So to prevent an influx of Pokemon with a less common gender I came up with a slight solution.
Gender Berries - When consumed your Pokemon goes through a slight change.
This item allows Pokemon with a gender ratio that is 1:1 to change gender.
It would be slightly uncommon
Gender Juice - The liquid in this container seems to be the result of several Gender Berries that have been combined to provide a more potent effect.
This item allows Pokemon with a gender ratio that is not 1:1 to change gender.
It would be more of a rare drop.
Of course neither of these items would work on Pokemon that do not have a gender.
Could use some more tweaking but that’s just the basic idea~

Yes, that’d be wasteful. That’s the point. Also, I’m saying that it should only force the next SPAWNED Pokemon. Maybe that would only apply to those within your reach. I dunno. Also next spawned egg maybe? But yeah, changing genders on existing Pokemon would be odd. Maybe they should make it so that Sweet Heart forces next spawned Pokemon to be the opposite of whoever used one. You can purchase Sweet Hearts in large quantities, albeit costly.
Ah, my apologies I mistook what you said. Though still with the next spawned Pokemon you can end up greatly wasting the item because the next Pokemon to spawn could be a great variety of things. If you happened to be hunting a rare Pokemon, waiting around for one to spawn could end up being an incredibly annoying process. I"d say maybe it should have a range like an aoe move that you can use and whatever Pokemon in that area would become whatever the opposite gender of the Pokemon the item is used with. However standing in the middle of a room and letting things hit you while you go into your inventory to find the item and use it could be fatal for most depending on the level/type of the dungeon and the level/type of your Pokemon.
I don’t think this is a good idea because changing a pokemon’s gender would sort of kill the whole substance of recruiting pokemon. I find it way more accomplishing & satisfying to find the pokemon you want, in the gender you desired, yourself. Just my opinion anyway. c:
And why not think in abilities instead of items? Cute Charm have this propiety in main games, and it could be same in PMU: if pokemon with cute charm enter in the dungeon, pokemon spawn with 75(opposite gender):25(ability’s pokemon gender), eggs would work as similar way, but outside dungeons (since i think egg moves and gender is defined when it hatch)
That is common in human nature. Besides, what I said was a counterargument to accomplishing the conditions you want. I don’t think your reply is relevant.
If you’re looking for the gender because of evolution reasons, I understand the frustration, but you just have to go back out and try, try again. If it’s a superficial reason like: “Gardevoir looks like a girl,” well that’s too bad.
