How to draw?

I finally cured artist block (YEAH!!!) but i’ve havent drawn in so long that i kinda…stink :-(
How can i get good at drawing again?

Practice- check references and such. I like going to Deviantart for reference poses, and if you’re trying to draw something realistic as opposed to chibi, try copying a photo of something, say a cat, and go over it in an art program to get the feel of how the anatomy works. There are plenty of good shading guides for digital and traditional as well. ^-^ Good luck~ Sorry I’m not much help. XD

I’m not a very good artist either, but I know some helpful tips ^o^
If your not sure you can draw something, or are having trouble drawing a certain pose, use basic shapes. To practice this take a random picture of a person or an animal and turn the whole picture into basic shapes. For example, the head would be a circle, the body maybe an oval or rectangle, the joints of the arms and legs would be circles. It’s pretty easy and will help alot. Once your done with the basic shapes, you can add details and shape your shapes into the picture. Just work off from the shapes. And if your having trouble with shading the easiest thing to do is find where your light is going to be, then draw the shines and shades from there. If your still having trouble, use a reference. References are just as good at basic shapes. They’ll help you know how the thing that your drawing looks. And when your drawing arms and legs, don’t draw them in a position you know they won’t be able to go into.

If you show me some examples of your art I may be able to show you some more techniques.

And drawing the lines to help positioning is good too. I used to hate using them, but now they’re worthwhile. C: Just thought I’d put that out there. XD

I can show you some art soon so you can help me. I would do it now but my scanner is broken.

If you have a camera, you can try taking a picture of it (with good lighting and at a straight/frontal angle would be best) and uploading it through there.

Well, here’s wut I do. In the situ8ion where I can’t dawdle while making pics due 2 being timed, liek, let’s say…Lit. Circles, I just do a quick pencil drawing. Then I use markers 2 add color 2 the outlines (I dun do the marker part with mouths) and color them with colored pencils.

Failed digital image:

Otherwise I use this method: http://waylands_forge.tripod.com/123/map.htm

I don’t really know how to help you, except with digital art whereas you can upload to something like tinypic.com. xD;

You need to upload it to an image-host on the internet like “tinypic

On Tinypic, Select the Browse Button.
Select the Image File you want to Upload, and then click Open.
Then Click the UPLOAD NOW! green button.
Follow what’s said in the 2 words capcha popup window and then click the UPLOAD NOW! green button.

After it finishes uploading copy the text in the textbox which says “IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards

Then paste that into the textarea in a post here on PMU to show it off or instead of the [img] tags you can use tags around the link to just have a text link if the image is huge in size.

Hope that helps.

Nice picture for a starting artist.
From what I see of your skill so far, I think you need to practice on making smooth lines.
as it is right now, the current lines are very ridged and jumpy.

Practice making straight & curved lines first to where they don’t jump up & down as much and then try to incorporate that skill into your drawings and it should help you big time to improve your drawing style.

Better then anything I can draw, that’s for sure. Whenever I draw all I draw is stick people and ugly things(like Reggie and Chris). :D :( :D :( Dunno I’m smiling and I’m sad. Like Elder said, you need to make the lines smooth so they match out with the picture as a whole.

That looks good, especially considering how you say you fail at it.

When I draw, I use a pen a lot, but how I do it may work with a pencil.

I just draw the outlines and things lightly, then I outline it. If I mess up outlining, then I go over it until I get it perfect. Coloring…eh, I don’t color much anymore. XD

Couple that strategy with straight lines (Or perfect curving lines) and its epic. Like this one, which a result of that combo.

To get good at drawing, just keep practicing.
I’m a major drawer, I love to draw, and I have gone through multiple artists blocks.
Heres a tip-
If you r going through a artists block and have no idea what to draw but you don’t want to get rusty, try this challenge I made up!-
Put your iPod (if you have one) on shuffle, or listen to a CD on a walkman.
Look at how long the song is.
Here’s tha challenging part-
You have that amount of time to draw the picture.
So if the song is 3:58 (3 mins 58 seconds) long, you have 3:58 to draw.
It’s fun, and it keeps you in touch with the artist side of you.

HEY HEY HEY HEY!!! WHAT DID YOU SAY?!

Your not that bad, your actually a very good artist.
Just like ElderKain said, you need to work on your lines more. They look a little bumpy. Try doing this: Sketch lightly on your paper the picture you want to draw,it can be messy. Since you drew it lightly, you can erase without leaving any lines. Re-draw what you erased and when you think you like it, try drawing over the light lines with a black pen. Don’t rush, you want to keep your lines the best you can.

And a shading tip: Before you start shading, lightly sketch a circle where your light source is going to be. Shines will be closer to the light source, while shadows will be farther away.

“i would really like to see some other peoplez pictures too.”
._. My art isn’t that good. xD A doodle:

This was done a while ago ;P

I cant for my life shade. O_______O I never got it.

Hmm… How to draw…
Well there really is no simple way to it, just practice heaps and heaps.
Draw something you enjoy drawing, because what is the point in drawing it if your not enjoying it?
I like T-rex’s, so this is what I drew.

I used a step- by step book to draw this, which helps a lot when drawing.
Use reference pictures to help you and practice even more.
I’ve draw nearly ten of these T-rex’s, so I’ve gotten very good at drawing them.

Dont pity me, i know my art stinks :(
and its hard to draw curves…

You’re art doesn’t stink!
It can take quite a lot of practice to draw a good, smooth curve, so here is some tips:
*Keep you hand on the paper, and hold your pencil on a lean and on the paper.
*Glide you hand in a sweeping motion across the paper, keeping most of your arm anchored to the table.
*Make sure you know where you are going! Put a dot at the point where the curve ends, and maybe half way between the start and finish point.
*Draw the curve lightly, then go back and draw the curve again, changing parts that you don’t like. repeat in till you’re happy with you’re curve.

And remember, have fun! :D
I hope I have helped!

Not again! Jason he ALREADY relearned!

So what if he already learned!
Doesn’t mean I can’t still give him some tips.
Or maybe somebody else could come along and see my post.
So why don’t you just leave me alone, because xien wasn’t anoyed by my post.
