Integrating a chat system such as IRC or Chatango into the client,as a form of external communication between players would be useful.
Think about it, a few players would like to talk on PMU, yet they do not want to open PMU just to chat. If a third-party chat client integration was made in the PMU client window, they could talk to other players without installing software, they could even use their tablet! The player in the PMU client would not have to open a web browser, which would be a great advantage as well.
Players could get used to the second chat system as well, do to the fact it is integrated into the PMU client, thus less teaching would be needed for the player to chat outside of PMU. It would be perfect for situations such as downtime, etc.
We had a chatango. We had a handful of regulars back in the day (2010-2013 ish). It had been dead for a long while, filled with spam bots and such, before they took it down. It was difficult to have someone moderating it at all times.
There is a PMU Skype chat, if you are interested. I would PM someone like Chaotix Bluix if you want to join.
Well what I mean is, wouldn’t a chat like IRC built IN to the client be manageable? If staff is on in the client, that would mean, by default they would be on the IRC. Something like that.
I can’t say whether it’s a reasonable possibility, I usually leave those questions to Andy and Co.
If we were to have an outside chat again, I’d prefer to see it on Chatango. (Again, there may be difficulty regarding consistent moderation.) Skype is the third-party chat of choice because it is invite only, convenient, and it is easy to moderate.
This suggestion was made in light of the server-downtime, correct? You want a way to connect to other PMU players outside of forums and possibly Skype? Typically, the server is up and I don’t think an outside chat is completely necessary, but if there’s enough backing, I’m sure we could find a way to make it work.
PS. Apologies if I missed a crucial point, I just got back home. haha.

Thanks for the input, I just assumed it would be easy for players, e.g. if they were away from the game itself, for them to use a chat that they can just hop on, need no install, and that they know well that isn’t a hassle for the player on the other end. Plus, you can open a webpage on a BlackBerry Playbook, but not run Skype, as with many mobile devices still.
Skype is a nice 3rd-party client to have, don’t get me wrong, but not all who can run PMU can run Skype.
PS. Thanks for the reply so quick since you just got home xD
I whole heartedly love this idea!!
There used to be plans a whiiiiiile back about having just that, and some other game-website links. But it requires much more programming than anticipated.
So, while it IS possible. It might require too much effort to be implemented properly. I assure you it is definitely on their list of things they’d like in game.
I too dream of a day of a in-game chat on the website!
Thanks for suggesting, iPhone! Even though the idea has been through the staff team, it is good to have it brought up again. It might just motivate someone with some free time to work on!
(or bring back the old project!)
