Introducing : Gardening?

GARDENING:

This is simply an idea and is not to be taken seriously, hence the reason why it is in the suggestions thread and not an actually update. Anyways, I was playing on the Pokemon Dream World thing today and I realized that Pokemon Mystery Universe would be a bit more convenient if players were actually able to garden and such.

Information:

Players would be able to purchase their own gardening center (maximum of one plot for now?) for the price of 3500 poke. They can learn more from a new NPC at the Housing Center, who will be more than happy to assist players. Once you get the poke for a plot of land, the Gardening NPC will lead you through a basic tutorial, teaching you what you need to know to become a proficient gardener in no time. At the end of the tutorial, you are given beginner plants (Oran and Leppa plants), as well as your own Watering Can.

Gardening on P.M.U will be fairly similar to planting berry trees in the real Pokemon games, however there are some obvious differences. For one, you are a Pokemon and not a human Pokemon trainer. With that being said, Pokemon with certain attributes can harm or quicken the growth of plants. For example, a poison type Pokemon can harm the growth of your plants. This can replace the need for mulch, or if anything, the mulch can replace the Pokemon attribute idea I had.

Issues:
I can already see a bunch of issues with this suggestion, and readers are free to add onto the list, as this is simply just a suggestion…

-The project would be pretty time-consuming for the programmers.

-Players would abuse the gardening feature.

-Rare berries would lose their value. (Perhaps the rarer berries should have a longer growth rate?)

-(In response to having wild pokemon in the gardens, quoted Enra) “Nor should there be wild Pokemon attracted to your garden. (Attack on sight or not.) Due to overkill on the programmers behalf, they’ll have a tough job with this feature as it is, to add something like this on top will most likely make the idea unwanted to the Programmers/Developers.”

Screenshots:
Like I said, this is simply a suggestion and not actually implemented in the game. So please do not take these screenshots too seriously, okay?

This is what the Gardening option would look like in the Menu. This option is disabled in dungeons, counting holiday cave events.

You receive this message when you try to enter a Garden that you obviously haven’t purchased. Like the message states, you can buy a plot for gardening at the Housing Center.

Suggestions:
The following are good ideas concerning the garden, created from others. :D Don"t worry, I"ll be sure to give you credit where needed!

-Suggestion by im a person: The NPC should be either a Ledyba or a Roserade.
-Suggestion by HappyKirby: Attract pokemon with different scents and foods from the garden.; Grow Berries and other things in the garden.
-Suggestion by Luraila: “Oh, oh! So if we can edit our garden, how about an indoor one?”

I like this. it is very well detailed and thought out. I especially like how you included what itwould look like in-game. SO bravo to you sir/ma’am, bravo.

Support, this seems like a cool idea. :)

I really like how you supported the issues and the positives. I would enjoy this idea; I’d actually want to ‘garden’ ahah.

i seemed to like the idea, we can get some oran berries for our selves or give it for the other players.

Luv this idea! I wouldn’t have to go into a dungeon for roleplaying items! You should also be able to purchase a warehouse just for berries to go with your garden. :D

Such a great idea! I wouldn’t mind having a gardening feature in-game. Instead of hunting for berries, 1-3 berries can grow at a time, on each tree, but would take a few game days to grow, just like other Pokemon games. I’m guessing you have to find the berries and plant them as a seed?
What else I like about it, you listed the disadvantages as well. Berries would lose value, time consuming for developers… ect.
Very nice job, making it look like if it were an actual game feature (:
I hope the staff takes consideration to this!
Great job, Rattus.

Programmers/developers.* (Sorry, I forgot to correct myself.)

Wowza, this is a really thought out idea Rattus.
I think it would be really neat to see that in game. I think the main con that you mentioned was it would be time consuming to program it in.

But other than that, it would really cool, not to mention helpful, to have your own garden.
I mean we do have all those berry plants in Tileset 10 that we could utilize. (though I cannot really distinguish which one is which at the moment). xD

Great job presenting this idea, I really hope it goes through.~

Wow VERY well thought out, and I can see another issue (or I just don’t understand) Other players can steal others berries, so maybe more of a berry pot? that you can carry around? But nonetheless. Very detailed, I loved how you pointed out the issues, one of the most detailed Suggestions I’ve Ever seen IMO.

Instead of it being from your menu, I think an area to the housing center could be added.

You could go into some entrance and it could bring up a menu that says:

Would you like to go to your Garden Plot?
-Yes
-No

And you would not be able to go into other’s this way. Perhaps this would be a less abusable function than accessing the Garden from your menu because you could be in some far away place and you might need berries. This would also make more sense logically because you probably don’t want to carry a bunch of pots with you while you are exploring some unknown area. ^^;

(Gist of it.)
If the plots could be like the current PMU houses except without the visiting function, it would be good.

A very well thought out suggestion, Steve-Kun / Traerth, and like you said, this does not have to be added. Thank you for incorporating the ups / downs of this idea as well.

Gardens would not be an extension of your home. If anything, it would be completely private (giving players a reason to actually buy a garden instead of attempting to steal from others), or only accessible to users on your friends list.

My garden idea was based primarily off of the Pokemon Dream World (the fact that pokemon could actually grow berries) and the older Pokemon games such as Diamond, Pearl, Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire. Like in those games, you can find rich soil, plant and water.

Yup! You kind of read my mind, because right now I was making a Gardening NPC at the Housing Center, haha. I just thought that warping to your Garden when in town and such would be convenient.

Good idea. However, what if this function was disabled in dungeons? For example, if I wanted to go to Winden Pass, but then I realize I’m shockingly low on Oran Berries, I wouldn’t be able to warp to my Garden, with a message explaining that I obviously can’t warp in dungeons. (That would mean you would give up.)

I am glad you guys are contributing more ideas onto this suggestion, and that you like it.

what if there was a Certain warp point TO your garden? (like Housing Center, inn, Etc)
I suppose this be like what PTD said

Players would be able to warp to their gardens from the Housing Center. I hope that clears any confusion. :)

I’d want to invite people to my garden and see who can pick the most berries! Maybe you’d be able to lock, unlock or make your garden for friends only? Oh! and what if you could edit your garden? That would be fun! ^-^

That’s why you add them to your friends’ list :)

But then my friends list would be overflowing with strangers, (that’s why I suggested the unlocked suggestion) Maybe when you unlock our garden it relocks when you go into a dungeon and/or leave the game? :3

I love this idea. I can already see problems, such as forgetting to unlock/lock a garden while you’re away (this would be a problem for forgetful players as they would be more prone to theft). :(

What if the player was stuck on the error, '[Player] is in game!"? surely that would stir issues, due to the fact that is a bug…

Sorry for not reading the idea before! :?

Two issues overall:

-You probably want your friends in your garden so it could be more community friendly.
-Others might steal your berries.

To solve this…

Maybe there could be a /editgarden command.
A menu sort of like the House Map Editor could pop up.

Options:

-Change the Music ( 8D It is your very own garden after all.)

-A Menu where you can type Player Names and the players you type can access your garden.
----------(If someone isn’t allowed into your garden and they try to enter, a message the says “You do not have access to this player’s Garden.” could pop up.)

-Move Plots (Move around places where you could plant your berries?)

Some more ideas for this:

The NPC: Like you said, if there were to be an NPC i would think it would be like a Roserade or a Ledyba

Garden Editor: Kind of like we have the map editor and house editor, we can make it like we can make our gardens more decorative. also there could be garden contests, who can collect the most berries in 2 weeks? and if you win you can recieve an expanded garden kind of like if you win a mapping contest you get an expanded map. Something bad that could happen with this is that if you enter the contest you can stay in your garden 24/7 and you could easily win. Maybe if you enter or even if you dont you could be timed. Maybe after 5 hours of being in your garden it could be locked/wind could happen if you enter.

Garden Timer Idea: Maybe if you enter a contest and the timer happens, you could make it that you can start a certain berry that takes about 12 hours, which is the time it would take until your garden is unlocked.
