Keybind To Begin Typing In Chat

In most MMOs I’ve played, there is some keybind used to switch from moving around/using abilities in-game to typing in the chatbox. In PMU, there is no such feature, and instead you have to click on the chatbox, type, send your message, and then click on the game once you’re done to resume play.

Normally, the ENTER key is what is used for this, but because this is used to pick up and interact with some things, I think alternatives such as the SPACEBAR could be considered. That is the key I am going to use in my example.

Example:

  • If you press SPACEBAR, all key inputs will begin typing in chat. After you send your message with ENTER, the game acts as if you are clicked onto the game window so you can move around, use moves, etc. again without needing to interact with the mouse and click on the game yourself.
  • If you wish to continue typing, press on SPACEBAR again to type some more.
  • If you accidentally press SPACEBAR without wanting to type anything, pressing ENTER would return you to the game.

Hopefully I’ve explained this well enough, games like World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV have a system like this in place that I really like and think PMU would benefit from.

Tbh, I got no idea how this isn’t a thing yet lol
imo you should be able to press T or enter to open chat instead of grabbing your mouse and clicking on the text bar

I really like this idea, this would be such a nice QoL to have.

Thought, i would preffer for the input to be something like Cntrl + T because space is used during chat mode to make space between text and you could accidentally enable chat mode when you don’t want to.

Spacebar was an example binding. In an ideal world, we’d be able to map our own, but that option while working with the limitations of PMU is… difficult. If spacebar was the binding they went with, pressing it again shouldn’t kick you out of chat, only enter should be able to do that.

I’ve wanted this to be a feature for soooooooooooooooooooo long

I think tab would be better than space bar though bc with tab you would be able to tab in and out from the chat and game even mid sentence without having to enter a message. That would probably save me if I was typing mid dungeon and a pokemon spawned but i wasn’t finished with my message XD
