Hello everyone, so I thought, regardless of interest, that I would share some YouTube videos from the Japanese game Magicaloss, developed by COLD BREATH, a company that designed one of Sony’s So-net.jp profitable web games - Livly Island, which won the Web Money Award in 2006.
I might post some battles that I find hilarious every once in a while, since YouTube has about 400 of these fights, officially recorded by the publishers of the game, ARTIFACT Co., Ltd.
You can check the channel here, but if you don’t want to try your luck finding some good fights, then don’t, because a lot of the fights are normal, but it’s not rare either to see some hilarious matches.
COLD BREATH then created more than three games up to this day, i will only list their main ones:
Puppet Guardian (???) (2006)
An RPG + board game hybrid, players find items in dungeons and make clothes and weapons, and use those items to fight monsters. This game also has a rather beautiful story and is said to be inspired by Castle in the Sky by Studio Ghibli.
Magicaloss (???) (2010-2011 - not sure)
The second game - this game links inventory with your avatar from Puppet Guardian, or vice versa if one decided to try Magicaloss first, and items that can be found in Puppet Guardian can be used in Magicaloss.
A room decorating sandbox-like game where monsters attack player"s rooms every once 15-20 minutes. The world is infinite-like, because it all depends on which players connect which rooms together, and the monsters that spawn in the rooms depends on the total level of every single character in the room.
Magic School Avalon (???) (2013)
A card game. You explore a magic school and battle teachers to earn new cards. The card game"s rules by themselves are quite simple in a pleasant way, yet the game feels a bit pointless to play once you collect many cards, as it has no other purposes other than attending tournaments. The inventory is connected as well, but you can"t really do anything with the items from the other games here, though you can find new, unique items in this game.
But I will talk about Magicaloss. I will be honest here, I don’t like Magicaloss that much compared to Puppet Guardian, but one thing was always extremely hilarious about Magicaloss.
What happens when you send your squires, which are AI controlled characters that you train and they help you subdue monsters, to battle other players’ squires - as gladiators? Since you can give your squires any equipment you want and any artifact you want, and each artifact responds differently to each other, this creates for some extremely hilarious or just epic, cool, or even absurd fights.
A very brief guide to understand the various weapons and magic:
There are 6 elements in the game:
Light
Dark
Fire
Water
Thunder
Earth
- Elemental damage comes either from magic spells (100%), or from elemental weapons (mostly 50% element, but varies.) In addition players can equip their squires with bracelets which add elements in their weapon.
! - Elements can be resisted when a squire wears necklaces with the appropriate elements.
These 6 elements have status effects. Very important to understand what is going on in these fights, please read carefully if you are interested:
! - Status effects can be resisted when a squire wears rings with the appropriate elements.
If you ever wonder what each status effect does, you could check this well-written category page:

Then, there are shields. Simply put, each shield usually blocks both physical attacks and two magical elements, this depends on which shield it is, and the combination of two elements it has.
These shields also do some damage to the attacker, as well as a chance to induce a status effect that is alike with the shield"s elements. This is why in some of the fights you seemingly see effects appear out of nowhere, but most of the time, it"s either because of elemental weapons effect chances or shields.
Whether you read the short guide or not, let’s get started~
