Magician Rework

So after playing Delphox again, I was reminded about how annoying its hidden ability is, having a chance to take a targets current held item and add it to your bag… even when you don’t need that item. I’d have to keep stopping and throwing away unneeded stuff that I wouldn’t of picked up had it not been for the ability (Extra food stuff I don’t need, type berries, throwing items not hot-keyed, grimy stuff the enemy picked up before, etc.)

And it’s only recently that I actually looked it up and found out that the way it works is a PMU-specific thing. In both mainline and Super Mystery Dungeon, it requires the user to not be holding anything, which is a lot less annoying.

Of course one could argue that the reason it was so easy to take stuff with it was because it gave an answer to dealing with the item bug that probably gave several shiny hunters and bounty makers their own set of headaches, but that was fixed recently by making it so that wild shinies can’t hold items (Might need to check again to make sure but I swear the problem was dealt with this update).

In any case, as the main reason you’d want to use it (Outside some really specific edge-cases I can’t think of right now) is pretty much dealt with, now would probably be a good time for a rework, either:

  • Making it work as it does in official works [Still a bit useless, but at least now less annoying].

  • Giving it a new, custom mechanic. As a proposition, you could make it so that the user gets a free use of the item (if it were a consumable) as if they were holding it and just pressed the corresponding item hotkey (Eating positive consumables, dealing extra damage with throwing items, but excluding some items like escape orbs and such which would wrap back around to being annoying) [This one would definitely be a lot harder to implement (Unless you just stuck to one type like throwing items), but it’d make the ability both a little more useful and remove the annoying factor to it].
