Make Trip Traps act like Knock Off

Make Trip Traps so they unequip your held item instead of dropping it (like how Knock Off works). I feel like this change would save a lot of grief from say dropping an item when running to the stairs and losing it forever.

i completely agree … especially after i lost my GM last night XD

Would really make the consequences of this trap weak and in the end, the trip trap wouldn’t be much of a trap since there’s nothing really bad about someone having an item unequipted.

Voting no.

Agreed o: :!!:

Voting… No.

Personally I do not see how this change would make trip traps have little/zero consequence as you still have no item equipped anymore if you trigger one and still would have to go into your inventory and re equip the item. Say you have a Pecha Scarf equipped and go into a room full of poison enemies and touch a trip trap. With this change it would not change the fact that you no longer have a Pecha Scarf equipped and enemies can poison you again.

Re-equipting items take 5 seconds. It would not be a hassle to go out of my way to re-equipt it.

Exactly.

The trip-trap issue can easily be solved by recoding the trip trap tile so it never spawns right next to the stairs.

However, it would eliminate a small but very obvious money sink (the most commonly lost items are Miracle Chests and Golden Masks, as they are among the most sought-after powerups).

If you look at the really big picture, that is, take the game as a whole, including its stagnating economy (which is tending ever more toward hyperinflation), then the trip trap is performing its intended function–it’s sort of a money sink (it makes you go out and buy another Miracle Chest or Golden Mask).

According to Festivo, when you venture on a Trip-Trap and drop an item, it cautions you in the discussion/dialog, however it is reasonable that this is barely noticeable. Taking a glance at this, (issue that is imperative now), Trip-Traps will now demonstrate an additional message when you drop an item.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Traps do not spawn adjacent to stairs (see latest Code Changelog).
  • Monster Houses will never have traps.

I bet we could find a better and less frustrating way to deflate the economy. :)

I feel so stupid, I forgot that they don’t spawn next to stairs. Facepalms -_-
