New Dungeon Idea: Eye of Maelstrom

Hello! It’s the first time I make a suggestion in this forum. I enjoy imagining dungeons that would be great to have in this game, also regarding pokemons that will appear in this game someday. I’d like to share my idea of new water theme dungeon today.

New Dungeon: Eye of Maelstrom (EM)

  • Location: Archford East Sea, big whirlpool
  • Secret Room: Yes
  • Sealed Chamber: Yes
  • Monster Houses: Yes
  • Level Range: 60-85
  • Floors: 50
  • ♬ B1-15F : PMD1) Stormy Sea
  • ♬ B16-30F : OR/AS) Heavy Rainfall
  • ♬ B31-50F : PMD2) Spacial Cliffs

Dungeon Characteristics: Heavy Rain

  • Between F11 to F50, heavy rain will randomly break out. Once the heavy rain start to fall, the weather will continue for 2~3 floors.
  • All the fire type moves would not work, and in contrast, water type moves’ power would increase.
  • All attempts to change weather would fail except ability Cloud Nine. (Ability, Orbs, Moves, etc)

Dungeon Characteristics: Whirlpool Trap

  • Just like the move whirlpool, when stepping upon it, you can neither move nor change member, and take damage for some turns.

Pokemons (Recruitable ※, New Bold)

  • Usually water themed, but also includes a plenty of new face ghost-types (Cursola, Dragapult, Basculegion) and pokemons that can use the move “Hurricane” (Masquerain, Dragonite, Kilowattrel)
  • All Floors : Vaporeon, Relicanth※, Masquerain
  • B1 - 15F : Kabuto, Croconaw, Chinchou※, Galarian Corsola, Wattrel※
  • B11 - 25F : Basculin (R/B), Anorith
  • B16 - 30F : Dragonair, Drakloak
  • B16 - 50F : Kabutops, Feraligatr, Lanturn, Kilowattrel, Palafin (Hero)
  • B26 - 50F : Basculegion, Armaldo
  • B31 - 50F : Dragonite, Cursola, Jellicent, Dragapult
  • B36 - 50F : Finizen※
  • Secret Room + Honey : Basculin (W)※
  • Egg : Relicanth※, Totodile※, Wattrel※

I’m still pondering over the boss and item tables, but it’ll be great if Primal Kyogre appears as a boss if only that can be implemented in this game. How do you think about this idea?

PS. I noticed that regional forms cannot be hatched from eggs, so I excluded Galarian Corsola from egg recruitable members.

Really cool dungeon suggestion!

having non a replaceable weather sometimes show up is interesting, altho is you can still prevent it to happen for reasons i can understand as if you where forcefully put into rain without exceptions it would mean water types would be the only viable type,

the pokemon types are also fairly interesting, water, electric and dragon.
meaning your best choice in pokemon is a grass type, which will have to carefully nagivate the hurricane covrage some of the pokemons are packing. which is a interesting little challange, (less everything is filled with ice beam. then i guess you just cry lol.)

there’s something i have a bit of a issue tho, altho it may be a missunderstanding on my part but. this is meant to be a underwater dungeon correct?
why are wattrel and kilowattrel in there, they are birds so it dosen’t make much logical sense for them to be underwater,
(i mean understand the reasoning is “covrage” and “i like kilowattrel” but it just takes me out of the immersion. :pikasad:)

if the boss is gonna be primal kyogre, it would be neat if it could drop the blue orb! so you can primal the kyogre summoned by a mystery part, sorta like you can get the Griseous core for giratina in dynamo sands!

Thank you for feedback!

As you mentioned, I thought a lot about the exceeding water type privilege of heavy rain. Primal kyogre’s ability was originally non erasable when alive, but since this case is not about ability but map gimmick, I think it could be alleviated somewhat, preventing changing weather only at the starting floor during heavy rain.

About the wattrel and kilowattrel, actually they replaced gyarados’ position of my original draft. I thought it would be better if they’re latest gen pokemon, and beacause kilowattrel lines are water fowls like pelipper lines, I thought it wouldn’t cause much disharmony.

I’m still thinking about the dungeon concept, but when I first came up with this, I imagined the situation that the weather is so stormy at surroundings, where it’s impossible to distinguish the real waterline. The main theme is a tempest than a whirlpool - If it’s completely underwater dungeon, I thought it cannot give impression of the “tempest”. So it’s actually a semi-aquatic dungeon than completely underwater - the seastorm is so great even the seabed is revealed, and we’re on the eye of it. Even so, it is true that it also includes the characteristics of underwater, (I’m imagining that the tile textures would be deep indigo color in the lower floors) so I gotta think twice about it

Well in that case, I think there’s even more awkward member in this lineup; masquerain. This is a type of hommage of my country’s poem “The Sea and the Butterfly”, although masquerain is actually a moth :P

And if the implementation of Primal Kyogre is unavailable, I’m considering assigning Lugia as a substitute boss. It would be also neat since we don’t have any way to play as Lugia :D
