Basically what it says on the tin, pressing / holding the designated key locks your direction until you stop (Could even have an indication of if it’s toggled or not next to the new HP & Hunger HUD in case your forget if it’s on or not)
I’m unsure how difficult it would be to implement, but I thought it’d be a way to make line moves easier to use, since there would always be times where I’d be using 'mons that didn’t have access to a lot of AoE moves, and would constantly have to take damage to simply line up an attack (Especially when the Enemy AI decides “Nah I was actually over here the entire time”, which I guess is more of an internet problem but the ability to strafe could still help).
I really like this strafing Idea. I already voted but I also want to emphasize why
using the home button for turning on the spot Is… horrible. I’ve gotten used It now and just know how many times to press If I want to turn to aim, but after playing lots of Mystery Dungeon recently It’d be great If we could just aim normally
there’s few keys used as keybind for the game. Ctrl currently lets you throw Items that are held when you press It with the respective team slot key, which Is Interesting but not useful normally. so I think ctrl by Itself could be the “aim” key
anyway It’d Ideally let you turn on the spot while showing the grid, and I like the little arrow graphic too, to distinguish It from the grid that shows when you aim while already holding a move. It’s hard to see because of the quality but It’s there: https://youtu.be/weXJrC4o7Es?t=53
Interestingly, the grid conforms to the room you’re In ( up to the last visible tile ) or just a 2 tile square; maybe the closest enemy?
perhaps an Ideal strafing keybind would Involve double-tapping ctrl to lock the direction you’re currently facing, which may not be Intuitive In practice. but I do like the Idea of base ctrl being used to enter “aiming mode”
I agree though, It’d probably make line of sights easier to use for people. coming from someone who happily uses them. but I think a strafing mechanic can’t ( maybe rather shouldn’t ) be Implemented without fixing the current method of turning on the spot so that’s why I emphasize so much on It but I understand If It warrants Its own thread
recently I liked the Idea of being able to walk backwards, and this mechanic would Inherently allow that. I just find the Idea of being able to “back away” from people funny, and would be cool for roleplay
I didn’t know you could use items that way. I’ve always just used z,x,c,v to use the items quickly so i think it’d be fine if they made ctrl a strafe button instead.
I think strafing would make such a fun addition to the game ESPECIALLY to arena. I would love if staff implemented this!!
