It’s not an official pokemon forum until someone asks for nickname help! lol Anyway, I was thinking we could have a topic where people can help each other come up with nicknames for their pokemon. Personally, I’m one of those people who spends several hours staring blankly at the screen when asked to nickname my pokemon. Since I (sadly) cannot rename my pokemon in explorers of sky, I knew that this process would take even longer, which is really bad for my anxiety. After hours of searching the internet and thinking, I gave in and decided to ask for help, which brings us to here. I’ll post below what I’m looking for, but I’m also interested in other people’s requests for nicknames. When it comes to pokemon that aren’t mine, I’m good at coming up with names so keep that in mind. :D
Anyway, here’s what I need:
I"m looking for nicknames for a Blastoise and an Aggron. I already came up with a nickname for Charizard (Axel), and Salamence (Lance). Hopefully that"ll give you an idea of what I"m looking for. If not, here"s the gist of what I"m looking for:
- The name cannot begin with the letters “A” or “L”
- The name must be something that could reasonably be given as a name to a human
- The name must reasonably apply to the Pokemon. For example, Charizard is named “Axel” because they both have an affinity for fire, and Salamence is named “Lance” because of his affinity to dragons
- I"d prefer a name that references a video game character.
- If not, I"d like a name that refers to a powerful tool or a weapon. For example, “Lance” is a spear, and “Saber” (what I nicknamed Samurott in GTI) is a type of sword.
Howitzer is a short barreled artillery piece.
Smith is a rather common name, but it does relate to “blacksmith” or “metalworker”.
Anyway, I’d check out Behind The Name for a giant glossary of names organized by roots, meanings, etc. It’s really been helpful for a lot of my personal writing projects and I think you’d enjoy it as well. :’)
Aggron:
FERRO: Old Italian byname for someone with a strong physique, meaning “iron.”
Blastoise:
GALE: English unisex name derived from the vocabulary word gale, meaning “sea storm.”
Wow, I couldn’t find much at all… xD This is a lot harder when I’m not looking for names for my own Pokemon, because I know what I want for sure. I would have tried to look for video game character names, but I honestly wasn’t sure exactly which franchises you would’ve wanted one from. I hope I helped a little. If not, good luck finding names that you like for your Pokemon! (Sometimes I spend almost an hour on one Pokemon. xD)
I don’t know if you’ve already come up with names for the two Pokemon you needed help with, but here’s some I’ve found…
Aggron
Damascus - A type of steel used for primarily blade-making in the medieval period; that"s made with forging and heat. Aggron can learn quite a few fire type moves and looks as though it"s wearing armor like a knight, so it"s possible to relate this to Aggron.
Mace - A heavy club usually loaded with spikes and has a metal head. It"s used to make “heavy blows”, which Aggron is can do with it"s high Attack stat. Aggron"s hidden ability is “Heavy Armor”, and Maces tend to deal more damage when they"re heavier, as Aggron does with moves like Heavy Slam.
I don’t have any names for Blastoise right now, and I only put weapon names, because like Cloudz said, I’m not sure what video game franchises you would want character names from. If you’re still looking for names, I hope this helped a little!
I guess you may have already named them but incase you haven’t here’s a few suggestions.
I like to give my Pokemon usually quite unique/odd nicknames, and instantly when I read Blastoise I thought Shotgun, which I suppose if he/she is first in the team works out quite nicely on another note. Also, considering a slight resemblance to the character, possibly Bowser for the Blastoise.
Then for Aggron, due to the fact it’s a steel and rock type I’d consider the name tank as it’s a quite large Pokemon too.
Mungl1 and Mungl2 maybe?!?
