Player mute/ ignore function

A mute function is definitely a desired one be it a simple /ignore (Player Name) command to no longer see that players messages or a more elaborate one to disable certain classes of sounds (like voices), whole voice channels. Only for the player mind you, say if I decided to mute Robert, other members can see Roberts messages while I cannot.

Essentially the purpose for this function is to alleviate not only the stresses of Staff having to monitor petty disputes but also gives players a feeling of “hey, I can do something here” instead of sometimes feeling helplessly caught when just wanting to play the game and relax. There is a big gap in this where say Robert decides to throw a tantrum, he can ignore other members who might offer better insight or solutions and continue his fit without any support he might get that could perhaps calm him down. Needless to say, Staff would not be able to be ignored. If someone is ignored they will not be notified and will be left curious. They can reach out through discord or a mediator if they want to see if things can be worked out. An ignore list could be posted in the explorer tool like the friends list is or even with another command /ignorelist for managing.

In every apple orchard there are going to be some rotten apples and we should be able to pick out which apples to eat. Thanks for reading, I haven’t put the most thought into this so any feedback that covers some ground I might have missed, a “Hey! I like this Idea!”, or “Yo, this idea stinks!” is appreciated.

Edit 1: Idea to have a /ignorepms for private messages presented by Uvuvwevwevwe Onyetnyvwe.

hello,

i recall this being suggested before. while the idea may sound fine on paper, consider if we want to create a community where people can simply opt to ignore each other through a command and block out anything they want to say. it seems like a cosmetic and short-term solution as opposed to actually resolving tension between two individuals. communication is key and engaging in open discourse or having a conversation is really one of the most effective ways to navigate through disputes and inter-player problems. to this end, having such a command actively inhibits access to one of the most effective cornerstones to any problem solving - communication.

i see pmu as being a live world and community where you have to engage with the same people for years (playerbase isn’t really that huge). it is like a neighborhood or global village of sorts which is a very different setting from what you see on facebook or instagram where blocking makes more sense.

i think it’s still a cool suggestion, maybe need to work out the mechanisms and logistics a little bit by shifting it from blocking someone to somehow allowing healthy distance and giving people their space?

cheers

I’m afraid I have to disagree. While in an ideal world, everyone would enjoy conversing with everyone else, forcing people who simply do not get along and have no desire to resolve their differences to do so anyway is a recipe for disaster. If a player wants nothing to do with someone, then a tool to help them simply not see anything that player says say is exceptionally helpful in just leaving them alone.

You can only have open discourse if all parties involved want it.

Yo,

Like Leostel already stated it would be wonderful if this was an ideal controllable area but quite frankly it really isn’t. Some people are just toxic to be around, not just in PMU but in normal everyday life. Toxic behavior isn’t always warned or punished for various reasons. Communication is a two-way street but some people only see it as a tunnel so it ends up like trying to talk to a darn grapefruit which is both frustrating and ineffective. I see having the option to avoid that negativity as better and healthier overall than finding yourself in a situation and not having it. Those who want to participate have that power, and those that want to sit through it can. Its just a matter of choice. Especially in a smaller community like PMUs, I know I find myself wanting to distance myself from the entire game based on the actions of some of these bad apples. As for the little mechanisms and logistics bit I’m a bit confused as to how you would modify the suggestion to fit that. Discord and mutual friends are ways to reach out and I’m, if the person wanted a healthy break they could simply choose to unblock the person when they feel they are ready. Thanks for the feedback.

Cheers back

I’ll add my word to this. When it comes to PMU’s chat system, it’s highly outdated and too simple. What I mean is that other chats in MMOs usually have a better system where you choose what to see, who to chat, etc. Since there’s so little control over which chats we want to see, it would be nice to at least have control of choosing a communication line. If the mute/ignore function was added, it would be a good short-term addition, but… To be honest, the PMU Chat itself really needs to be updated so we have multiple chatrooms that we can choose from instead of having all-in-one Local/Global/Guild chat.

could just add more chats such as market/general/guild/friend/none pmu related so people don’t have to see random market spam or none pmu related stuff :)
