Saving Maps

Saving Maps

So I was making a map earlier today, halfway through I started a bit more of a fall theme for October, so I just finished my house and I wasn’t really in the mood for a dungeon so I decide I want to make another map. Here is where my problem comes up, I like my current map and would like to use it again sometime. But I also want to make a new map. I don’t know much about programming (Though I’d like to learn) so I don’t know how hard this would be but what if people could save maps? They would only be able to save a certain amount of maps, maybe 6,10 or 12, and they would be able to load them or overwrite a saved map at any time. The maps could either by named, show a preview when the mouse is hovered over the button to select it or both so players knew which one was which. This menu could probably be a new button at the bottom of the map editor. Thank you for reading through my suggestion and I hope it can be considered.

I actually love this idea, and I think it has been suggested before.
The map editor itself suggests that you are able to save a map or upload a map, and I believe that PMU6 had that function (?).
So I would definitely love to have this function since I’m facing a familiar problem.
I would actually propose the possibility of saving a map and then having the ability to upload to any other house/map you have saved!

As Char said, I really love this idea a lot ! o:
It’d be really nice to be able to have multiple maps rather than just having to map an alt’s house if you want something new and like your current house.

Yup, I agree too! This is really good especially if you want to practice mapping but you still want to keep some of your houses.

I support! :la:

I support this idea too!
It’ll make me not fear making new maps! x3

I’m thinking how about a /savehouse command which only works within your house which then creates a savedhouse folder inside your client folder so you can backup your houses anytime. So you can possibly save your progressions and even store them somewhere safely but then again a lot of collisions can occur with this mind unless this is what you where resulting towards also I have to agree with your idea it’s quite fascinating and seems like the perfect idea!

Personally i think this the best way to implement it , since client saves mean

  1. an unlimited no. of saved maps (unlike the original suggestion, you wouldnt need a cap of x maps)

  2. less server data which is always good

  3. it gives the possibility of working on maps offline (depending on how it would be saved to the client) (i know in my initial download it also downloaded the map editor, which happened to never work. im not sure how that map editor was meant to work, but this could provide the possibility of the map editor - to normal players anyway - being a house creator so people can do stuff offline. Meaning you could say create a map in the editor, move it to a savedhouse folder in the client and then switch to it online in pmu. also means active chatting in pmu while mapping since different applications!)

EDIT: Client saving does mean that problems with the client (as such as eg needing to redownload pmu, computers dying unexpectedly) mean they become inaccessable/or destroyed, but generally backing up particular client folders both internally (within a different file on a computer) and externally (on eg. an external hard drive) is suggested for games with a lot of client data/and external is suggested for precious data in general.

Supported! :joy:
