Stat Reductions and the Speed Stat.

STAT REDUCTIONS
Stat reductions were removed from PMU because they were too “annoying”, likely because they were reduced so far down by spam moves like Growl or String Shot that it made dungeons too hard to complete. Stat reductions have been in every Pokemon game released, whether they are PMD or the regular Pokemon games. They are annoying for a reason. You are supposed to learn how to avoid it and/or how to overcome it.

I suggest reimplementing stat reductions, but only allowing stats to drop five times compared to stats being able to go upto ten. That way, stat reductions would be annoying, but not unbearably annoying. Implementing this would give use to moves such as Mist that prevent stat reductions. Many players may not want this to be implemented but it is a part of PMD games and PMU is based off of PMD.

SPEED STAT
Well, it does nothing really, unless you count abilities like Swift Swim and Chlorophyll that increase attack rate can weather. The speed stat, no matter how high or low does nothing. I have heard rumors that the Speed stat can increase fire rate. Some Pokemon will have terrible stats, so they would be “useless” unless the Speed Stat is factored in.

I suggest making the Speed stat increase attack rate in proportion to level. The higher level you are, the faster you can attack. The increase will not be overly large but also not unnoticeable unless the Speed stat is extremely higher or lower than average.

An idea would be that at Level 1-40 will be the same as it is now or slightly higher/lower. At 41-50, attack rate will be slightly increased, at 51-60, it will be slightly increased again, and so on until Level 100. You would be able to tell a difference in attack speed between a Level 40 and a Level 60.

[spoilerPossible FAQ:jziuqcfe]Stat Reductions
Q: How would this be beneficial to a player?
A: Stat reducing moves can be very helpful if you are fighting a tough boss or trying to weaken down a player in the Arena. There are multiple stats so there are multiple choices on how to weaken your opponent.

Q: What if this becomes too annoying?
A: In dungeons, there are Wonder Tiles that restore stat changes. Mist prevents stat reductions. White Herb restores stat reductions. You can also switch to a different Pokemon.

Speed Stat
Q: Why should this be implemented?
A: The speed stat does little to nothing currently. This is an idea for what the Speed stat can do to make it more useful.

Q: Shouldn"t the Speed stat increase movement speed?
A: Yes. While movement speed is useful, it isn"t very useful in terms of fighting. Fast attacks can be more beneficial as opposed to running away. Movement speed could also increase by level, but it should be alongside increasing attack rate.

Feel free to comment/criticize.

I’m pretty sure the speed stat is proportional to your hit stun recovery.

If it does do this, I sure as heck don’t notice it at all.

Fact of the matter is, even if it just effects hit stun recovery, it really should have a MEANINGFUL impact. Think about it for a second.

Does speed relate to how fast you can recover from a blow? Or does it relate to how fast you yourself move and attack? Check the definition of speed.

speed
noun
1.
the rate at which someone or something is able to move or operate.
“we turned onto the runway and began to gather speed”
“the speed of their progress”

rapidity of movement or action.
“the accident was due to excessive speed”

When I read those definitions, I definitely do not think of speed being related to how fast someone recovers from a blow. Do you?

TL;DR: I support the idea. Heck of a lot better than the hitstun mechanic, if speed even effects that in the first place.

It is, and makes me get in many pinches a load of times (Thank camerupts base speed for that), gets me killed many times.

Other than that, well, the stat dropping moves should really work since that would be nice

This explains a lot._. Hariyama doesn’t seem to want to attack when I want it to, apparently it was because of this.

We’ve already acknowledged that Speed is in much need of a rework, and have two things in mind at the moment. Speed does currently effect how much you can apply hitstun, as well as increase your resistance to hitstun… But unless you use something like a Crobat/greater, or using Agility… The difference is hardly noticeable.

We want to give more speed focused Pokemon a place in the meta, because they don’t currently bring as much to the table as a tanky or damage focused Pokemon. Speed in PMU6 was a bit hit and miss, since it affected both your attack speed and how often your health would regenerate… This wasn’t too overpowered in most scenario’s, unless you spammed poffin’s like crazy (although the AS increase wasn’t huge, so it was a very small upgrade… The higher factor of power was how people were getting healed faster than they were taking damage).

As for nerfing/removing stat reduction… I’m honestly a bit disappointed in that. I’ve been out of the loop in terms of game balancing due to current life issue’s, but I don’t really agree with that change… I’ll have a word with the devs about it when I can, and see what their full reasoning behind it was.
