The Forest; A Short Story. ( It has pictures! Fancy! )

Well, I decided to start writing short stories based off the many dreams I get, which are rather disturbing at times. I’ll share the less disturbing ones with you.

They’ll all be accompanied by strictly black and white artwork, and please bear with me; this is the first time I try out this style.

Here’s one I’m working on. It’s called The Forest, and it’s about… Something. If you don’t catch on early, let me reassure you, the last paragraph reveals the ‘hidden’ meaning. So yeah. Let’s kick this off with the introduction…

The Forest

I’ve always been afraid of new things. But that’s a natural reaction. I’ve never seen a wild animal come up to us and eat right out of our hand. It’s to protect us, in a way. Yet there is one thing we just have to give into, at some point in life. One change we must make, wether we want to or not. Generally, it’s an easy thing to do, but sometimes, it comes unexpectedly at your door, and you must face the music. This is the story of a girl who went through this change.

Elle was a simple young lady, rosy cheeks, lovely golden hair and sea blue eyes. She had a petite forme, not quite the average height, and happened to be found clad in dresses most of the time. In fact, she fancied her crimson velvet dress over any other-- which she wore the very same day she made her leap towards a new beginning. It all started on a rather cloudy day, one morning, as she strolled her way across the city’s border. The scenery was delimited by the thick undergrowth of the forest which surrounded the boundaries of said city, and each day of the week, Elle walked along the thin line that would happen to separate the concrete from the wilderness. Little did she know that she was eyed upon-- no, not by some sort of creature, not a wild cat or dog, not an inhabitant of the forest, but the forest itself!

Curiously, on one fateful day, she felt this ominous presence eyeing at her, and twisted on herself, turning and glancing about madly in hope of finding the eavesdropper, in vain. She called out, but never really got an answer. Her anxiety quickly dissipated once her eyes cast down and met with a sparkling, glossy fruit, as red as her garments. She quickly forgot about everything as she leaned forward to reap the irresistible sphere, plucking it from the tree it belonged. It did not take long before she took note of the lack of fruits in it; This single apple seemed to be the only thing that it bore. She shook her head, dismissing the oddity, and leaned back on her feet properly. For the first time, after years of walking past the forest, she took the time to contemplate the scenery.

Great story Sannom, can’t wait to read more. The pictures went along perfectly ^-^

Also, oddly enough, I wrote a story the other day with the main character being named Ella…haha

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I should keep posting paragraphs in the following days. Three pictures in one night is a bit exhausting :>
