And that, according to the wiki, is all the family items that share an exact ability with the globes. I hope the PMU Staff Team takes the time to look and review all of this and hopefully make a public statement on what will be done about these items. If I’ve missed any other family items on the wiki, I am sorry and please feel free to add on in a comment below. Thank you.

Mad agree, it sucks that mons like Lucario just don’t get to benefit from their globes in the same way other mons do. Would like to see this changed.

aside from gen 8 items, I personally don’t think gen 1 to 7 needs any change or fix. I mean, sure there are overlaps, but then what? you just make things more stronger and broken, and imo not needed. Yes there are exception but I think some of them are fine. furthermore these items heal hp instead of just blocking out damage like globes.

i personally do not feel like fam item sharing globe immunitys is that big of a deal and is fine to leave them be, but there’s a couple of things i need to point out

i’m not a big a fan of this, it’s speciffically to buff the alolan version leaving kanto in the dust, when kanto is the one that needs the bigger buff.
darmanitan who is in the same boat you gave it rock immunity, what’s up with that

uh. azumarill is already immune to grass, it has sap sipper as a ability.

On many Pokemon, I don’t mind that their family items overlap with globes. In my mind, I see these as a cheaper and more powerful alternative to globes that some mons get access to, while others have family items that are nearly useless.

However, I do agree that changing a few of these would be a good idea. Some of these mons are in desperate need of attention, and adjusting their family items to give them an additional type immunity would be an easy way to make these Pokemon a bit more viable.

So I’m obviously biased here - but the way I see it, many of the pokémon listed are already somewhat substandard. It seems sorta unfair - or at least illogical - that many of these pokémon just… don’t get access to the same sort of power that other pokémon do. Absorption is a nice benefit to have over straight immunity, but it’s hardly the same as an entire extra 3* fam item, or globe. It really just seems like these mons have been cursed by the luck of the draw.

I didn’t look at abilities, skipped over them and was just looking purely at the items, that’s my bad. Fire globe already gives water immunity so afire collar on ninetales is already a waste, might as well help out Alolan ninetales who is 4x weak to steel and has no answer to it.

Making things stronger, that’s the whole point of these items in the first place. If people didn’t want them to be stronger, then why are they here in the first place? If their purpose was to be useless then there’s no need for them to be in the game and since they’re already in the game we should either change them to make them better or just remove them entirely.

you are aware alolan ninetales also gets 2 globes compared to ninetales single one right?, it dosen’t seem like a fair exchange, kanto still has to deal with rock and ground weaknesses

Already has water immunity with globe, at least against rock and ground types normal ninetales doesn’t get one tapped unlike alolan ninetales where a steel move would outright kill no matter what.

Making things stronger and making them broken are two different things. These globes and fam item already make this game super easy, we don’t need to make it even easier.

Furthermore, I said while some are jusified, some overlapped ones are completely ok. Like blastoise, making it have 0 weakness is just imo not good.

why do keep repeating the water immunity?

what i’m arguing against is specifically giving kanto a bad item that can easily be defined as worthless on it just make alolan ninetales even better despite already way better and liked then regular ninetales,
you could give them rock immunity like darmanitan because they both suffer from that weakness.

a bit off topic but, is there a lot of fire types that change to ice type when getting regional form of just those 2 coincident.

My brain energy is too weak to pin down many pokemon specifically because there’s so many on this list but I will say some absorbs are better as family items because they give easier access to a bigger deal of a weakness than the ones offered as replacement. With the current state of how globes are obtained, anyway.

I am personally invested in hoping to see some pokemon change though, like Golduck, Dragapult, and Garchomp !!! are ones I’d really like to see and possibly a few others (just can’t think about which right now too sleepy/spacey)

But I think this would probably require a lot of more individual weighing on other factors of the pokemon. Some pokemon may already thrive and not need such a change and it could just make some pokemon too strong. Having some weaknesses is healthy for balance lol

For example, Kingdra is an insanely powerful pokemon with access to max movement speed and increased attack speed, a great movepool, good stats and a tanky typing. I trained one to 100 and would never at any moment would have felt particularly benefited by fairy immunity because it wasn’t really a problem. Fairies are uncommon pokemon and not much of a threat unless you can’t really hit them back or are 4x weak. Since I used it to run DD, without a recovery move, I actually found the dragon absorb better than the globe.

I like having a little bit of overlap with globes, it enables using more mons without having to have a tricked-out event token item collection.

Plus I’m against changing the effects of base PMD family items unless they’re broken.

It’s already worthless since the fire globe nullifies water attacks anyway. A lot of family items are. That’s why I made this post to bring awareness to some of them.

There’s already several mons with no weaknesses, some that are even stronger and better than blastoise. Why not give some more mons no weaknesses instead of just keeping two separate items doing the same thing?

Yeah, against cases like that, it’s super hard to argue against changing some of the family items. Honestly, I don’t think family items should heal from a certain type of move but if that’s how it’s going to stay, then…idk, lol. Thanks for bringing that point up.

your dodging my point,
what i’m saying is that ninetales fam item could be rock immunity, so both forms would be happy rather then just 1

If you give rock immunity, steel moves will one tap Alolan ninetales while BOTH can live a hit from a rock type move so it’s not needed.
