I really like the player houses, they’re creative and fun to visit. But the only way to really find them is to check people on the online list, which is tedious and there are probably lots of nice houses I dont know about. It’d be cool if there was a button that just took you to a random user house, preferably only non empty ones but even if not it would still be nice to have. I dont know how one would code this so maybe its too hard, but it sure would be cool so thought I’d suggest it.
No support. I don’t think it’d be very feasible to put in a system to filter out empty houses, and so the “random” button would just take you to a bunch of blank houses. Which, believe me, there’s a lot. Plus, I’m not really comfortable with the idea of randos stumbling upon my house upon happenstance. I already have it blocked up to ward out people online visiting… I especially don’t want people there when I’m offline S:
Anyways, really, the button doesn’t seem like it’d be useful to many, nor does it really go with the idea of houses? When you go to someone’s house IRL, it’s intentional. You don’t just go up to a stranger and be like “Hey, I love looking at interior! Let me in!”. That’s weird. Which, I get that MMOs aren’t irl, but I’m talking from an in-game sort of perspective.
Would actually be pretty simple to make, select all house maps, pick a random one, if not empty return, if empty repeat.
Strangers still break into your house when you’re online and you’re clueless. Better get a fence.
Hey kid, let me in! I’m a fairy! Don’t you believe me?
i say no because i store lots of stuff such as family items and honey(full storage)in my alt’s house and they’re unprotected since i drop them off quite alot and not really bothered to picked them all up with the alt account and put them in a secure place, therefore someone can easily steal my stuff when they use that feature
i’d ONLY support this if it was possible to take your house off of the random list, and preferably if it was made explicitly clear that there is a way to do so.
I mean, i don’t know about a ton of houses just MADE for people to explore i bet…but yknow, i wouldn’t want people happening upon my own or my alts houses because i tend to store a lot of items on the floor and some of those items are protected only by the fact no one knows the alt, and some items though are blocked are not for sale and i don’t want any questioning me about them.
This is great for some people, sure…but not for me. So long as there’s an option to prevent your house being on the list of random options i’m fine.
Well, I don’t know how I feel about this because, some people might not people in their house for some reason at all, and if that’s the case there should be a command that shuts off the random house list, but your going to see a lot of blank houses (Like someone said) so that is a bad idea that way…so I don’t know how I feel about this Topic it sounds like a good idea but I don’t see this happening at all.
I didnt realize so many people wanted their houses to be private, I guess I thought the point of them was to show them off and explore them. I can see the problem if you left items unprotected. (i usually make a fringe hiding spot for leaving stuff on an alt it worked so far)
I actually visit random peoples houses all the time just to see whats in em :P but I wouldnt go in if I knew they didnt want me to. I guess an option to take your house off the list would be best, but I guess maybe someone could just start a board for a list of houses you can explore.
I just like how creative people get with the maps. Sometimes I look up a random name like Inn or Jail and theres a neat map there, so I wondered if theres more places like that.
And…consider this, too: several members of my guild suffered vandalism of our houses a while back, and therefore we had to take the step of placing 30 cheap items on blocked tiles (such as single coins or apples), to prevent such vandalism in the future.
A random-house feature would definitely be abused by trolls, thinking they’d get away with vandalism for quite a while, and put random items such as thorns and gravelerocks all over people’s houses. It’s something of a nuisance, albeit one which is rather easily dealt with (just enter the /edithouse function, ignoring the warning of item loss, and immediately save after the items disappear, then place the 30 cheap items on blocked tiles).
So, I do not condone the addition of a random-house button to the housing center.
Except… that doesn’t really change anything in terms of vandalism, it would be just as easy to get away with it in random houses as it is in targetted ones and vandalism is often targetted anyway. Being able to enter a random house would make pretty much no difference.

thats why you put them in a alt that no one know exists
In my opinion I think the better idea to this is for when players who open shops do /openshop inside of their own house it will then come to trigger a script which will then have it placed onto the map list. Then players who are trying to find these shops can find those houses by looking at the shoplist as well people can just do /openhouse to do the same thing instead of a random join button as that would be very weird to have someone jumping into houses even if you’re privately talking with one of you’re friends so I agree with Artix in my opinion and he may not agree with this! haha.
Actually, I’d love to see a list of “shops” and an option to visit them. But I’m not too sure of having an option to visit random houses, since a lot of people dislikes strangers in their houses. Maybe a house keeper could “join” a list of houses that can be visited randomly? I’m not sure if this is possible to code nor if it’s really useful. Although I really like the shop idea!
Visting random houses sounds like a real curious thing to do. Not sure about people wanting their houses private / “not wanting strangers” if you actually take time and make a house you like (and that’s pretty likely if you dislike strangers visiting your house, you’re not gonna be hypersensitive over a blank house), you’re not very likely to just sit in your house, alone, in the corner, 90m miles away from the rest of the world. And on the off chance that you do, you’re very few compared to the rest. Sounds nice for someone curious and adventurous.
Furthermore, if on the equally off chance the random house visit happens to be yours, pretty sure it’s entirely possible to just kick someone out (if you are the hypersensitive person). Not to mention if it does happen, there’s a possibility you’re not even online, to which you wouldn’t know about the visit in the first place, unless they’re not someone curiously admiring houses created by fellow players and would much rather attempt ruining your house or informing you specifically for whatever reason that they visited said house.
