I was just thinking about the HC’s we have missed (I don’t care really but they were a fun part of PMU) and i thought of a Holiday Cave where for the first week or two there’s a HC…
Ahh but… just a plain HC would be boring for a Welcome back! i was thinking seeming we missed, summer HC, Halloween HC, maybe christmas HC and possibly easter HC (Possibly) it could be all the HC’s we have missed put together… CRAY right so this is how it would work…
You enter the hc, you must have at least 4-5 hours of gameplay to go into this HC (Just to prove you have played before) then a scene with welcome back and some heroic music starts playing and theres all the admins lined up (Sprites of course :D ) and then there is 3-4 different doors, each door is a different HC with different things, so door one could be Halloween HC and door 2 could be easter HC and so on! Then after you have beat all the HC’s because people after HC’s used to always be like “OMG its boring now, not nuff floors” and stuff like that, there could be a final door with a HC mega boss in it that you can only beat when all doors have been explored (But if you die it resets) and the prize for beating the boss could be awesome!!! (Haven’t thought of anything yet)
So what do you guys think, please tell me… Thanks!
Holiday Cave isn"t important at the moment… and it won"t be for some time. We need PMU to actually have a Holiday Cave. And as you should know, PMU is down for some time. Making this Topic is a little to early, don"t you think? I mean, the staff are working their hats off to get PMU back up and running! So maybe when it comes back on, they might consider a Holiday Cave or not. But either way, It"s for them to decide and not us. But it should be back up by New Years or something like that! [I think it was Sprinko who said it… check out Yatterman"s thread about the server being offline.] But about Holiday Caves again, we"re coming up to Easter, so we will most likely have Easter Holiday Cave which is most peoples favourites. ^^
Just a thought, but I don’t really think that they’ll consider HCs for the moment. After the server update, there’s still X/Y sprites that players create to go through, and then there’s the decisions on Client updates. If there will be an HC, I doubt it’ll come the instant PMU’s back up.
We have been considering slowly moving away from Holiday Cave(s) for events… Granted, it isn’t completely out of the question for us to work on one once we have the server up and running for the community again, it just isn’t something we have time for at this current moment.
There are a few good reasons as to why we want to move away from Holiday Cave(s) in the future. The main being that it takes up A LOT of development and testing time… Most players are already aware of this. The idea of making a FULL dungeon that has some kind of niche mechanic to it that only lasts for 2+ weeks, only for it to be scrapped/reused in the future is horrible from a development standpoint. We end up spending too much time making these dungeons (let alone testing them), yet they aren’t permanent content.
There is the argument of “Why not just make them permanent content?”. Only issue with that being the way that almost every Holiday Cave has been made is strictly to be felt as an event dungeon… They don’t fit in, some of the assets do get reused, but not for quite some time (and this is usually limited to NPC’s and Item’s). Even if we did decide to make them permanent, it is fairly hard to fit these dungeons into the overworld, and still leave room for previously planned “Permanent” content.
Another issue is that once you have run a holiday cave a specific amount of times (i.e: Gotten all of the rare Pokemon/recruits/etc) there really is no reason to run the dungeon anymore (unless we are talking Easter Holiday Cave, and lets be honest… Easter Holiday Cave practically defeats the purpose of rare spawns outside of events… But it is nice to throw casuals a bone once in a while).
There are more minor issues towards these event dungeons, but the important issues have pretty much already been covered… It is just too much work for something that is only in the game three times a year for a few weeks. This is why we aim to do events in the future that take up less development time yet still pleases the community (at least hopefully so).
As for these new events… Well, we have still been discussing that, but we have a few things in mind. One example of something that we may end up doing in the future is going back to events like the 2009 Easter Event (although even that still takes up a decent amount of time, but at least not as much as Holiday Caves).
The way I see it is that it"s impossible to please everybody. There will always be somebody who disagrees / rages / get"s upset about something. Taking out Holiday Cave as a whole wouldn"t be that much of a problem, in my eyes. I mean, there"s the obvious no definite new pokemon, but eh, I suppose it defeats two problems. Lag, and raging because you cannot get a pokemon. ((Like Cryogonal // Wailmer in Winter HC)). I believe that this change would be better.
the staff are bound to do something in celebration of pmu returns when it returns, so maybe you should just leave it at that? I’m sure they’ll do something at least mildly spectacular.
Also @Yatts what did we do for 2009 easter? All the holidays meld together to me. >>
I asked Yatterman over skype, and he gave me a youtube link to see what it was like, because I had no idea… So, here you are. Anybody should watch if they"re unsure what the 2009 Easter Event was like.
(p.s. yatterman was a player when this video was made!!!)
(p.s.s. pikachu was a mapper when this video was made??? [his name is Cyan])

thank you, i’m pretty sure i skipped out on that one.
so basically they just want to make one large overworld with pokemon strolling about who will drop tokens to buy stuff with? And perhaps toss in some shinies to really mix it up? x3
I"ll provide mine and Yatter"s conversations, because I was pretty much asking the same thing as you…

Can i ask what it was like in 2009? o:
[03/01/2014 23:45:25] â—„Yattermanâ–º: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSZMVhtjBk0 Theres a video of it.
[03/01/2014 23:45:33] â—„Yattermanâ–º: Heck, I"m a player in that video.
[03/01/2014 23:46:10] Rindu: Eh. I"ll have to watch it on my phone…
[03/01/2014 23:46:11] Rindu: brb.
[03/01/2014 23:46:47] â—„Yattermanâ–º: The pokemon at the time were rare or starters… And there were a few shinies that were available (Granted, we would not do anything like that this time)
[03/01/2014 23:47:03] â—„Yattermanâ–º: All pokemon had a rare drop of Event Tokens, and there was an event shop that dropped nice items.
[03/01/2014 23:47:23] â—„Yattermanâ–º: We also had another map that we would do Easter Egg hunts on once every two days during the event.
[03/01/2014 23:47:43] â—„Yattermanâ–º: You would trade in two eggs for a Event Token.
[03/01/2014 23:48:44] Rindu: for the Ludicolo shop right?
[03/01/2014 23:48:49] â—„Yattermanâ–º: Mhm.
[03/01/2014 23:49:07] Rindu: also, I have a question. Are all players on the same map?
[03/01/2014 23:49:16] â—„Yattermanâ–º: Granted, the events wouldn"t be “Exactly” like that… Just trying to keep things a bit more simplistic.
[03/01/2014 23:50:06 | Edited 23:51:48] Rindu: Also, were pokemon their original level during that event, or level 1?o:
[03/01/2014 23:51:28] â—„Yattermanâ–º: Can"t quite remember.
[03/01/2014 23:51:33] â—„Yattermanâ–º: It has been a while.
[03/01/2014 23:52:30] â—„Yattermanâ–º: There was a warp from the original crossroads that lead to this map, those houses lead to little mazes that would have a event coin that spawns once every hour…
[03/01/2014 23:52:42] â—„Yattermanâ–º: And pretty much everything else that I mentioned.
[03/01/2014 23:53:18] Rindu: Personally, if everyone was on the same map, I believe it would be unfair. . . I mean. People like zara would just kill ALL the rare pokes (smirk)
[03/01/2014 23:53:46] â—„Yattermanâ–º: Again, this is only an idea right now.
[03/01/2014 23:53:57] â—„Yattermanâ–º: And it wouldn"t be exactly the same as before either.
[03/01/2014 23:54:42] Rindu: Hm, well i just thought i"d point out a flaw. o;
The idea here is to just have events be a bit less of a hassle for the staff team to develop. Holiday Cave is usually fun to make, but it is also demoralizing on several levels for whoever ends up taking the job to make it every year… Again, this is something that we have been discussing over the past few months, and we may not even go back to the way we used to do events… But it is a possibility.
As for the actual question of the topic (since I completely forgot to answer that clearly, my apologies). A return event is something that could possibly happen, but it is not a focus right now… We’d rather worry about getting our current work done, rather then plan out an event during the downtime. It would be much better to do something like that shortly after the return of the server.
ahh, well thank you for that. sadface for the no shinies. :C
but otherwise, seems like this idea needs a lot more fleshing out before it’s made applicable to the now pmu.
