Chimchar, as when he evolves he gets quite a diverse movepool and is able to take down pretty much any pokemon. Flying types? Meet stone edge! Water types? Meet sunny day and solar beam! You can pretty much train Infernape to have a movepool ready for most types!
Alright i think its time for me to vote too :P
There is many Starters out there that are extremely good early game due to their abilities, such has Torchic and Totodile, but think from all of them, probably has probably the most powerfull ability combination from all of the other starters.
Why you ask?
The answer is, everything that has , just, combines so well in my opinion
For starters, has Sand Stream and Sand Force
Sand Force increases Rock, Ground, and Steel type moves by 33% while on Sandstorm.
That’s something really good, considering that Earthquake will do even more damage, helping clearing floors easier, it also gets access to Iron Tail and Rock Slide, wich gets boosted by Sand Force too
Also gets Slack Off via Heart Scale, a great recovery move.
Family items, are also a great extra, Thick Scarf increases Evasion in sand, that will help avoid a hit or two, and Grit Veil absorbs Grass Moves, wich is one of weaknesses.
So to summarize everything
Pros
- Great Ability combination
- Nice Stats, only negative stat is Speed, but since Speed isnt really something in PMU, it doesnt matter.
- Early evolution, evolving at level 34
- Powerfull Earthquake, helps cleaning floors easily
- Gets Earthquake rather early (level 37 if you dont evolve Hippopotas or use a Big Mushroom, or at level 40 with Hippowdon)
- Gets an absorbing family item, to cover one of his weaknesses
- You can have Smooth Rock to activate Sand Force without summoning Sandstorm
- Late game he just destroys everything with Earthquake, and maybe Rock Slide for Flying types.
Cons
- Kinda lame early game, the frist Ground type move it gets is Dig at level 19.
- No items to cover Water moves.
- And probably the worst: Sand Stream makes dungeons difficult to see, making early game rather difficult.
Not perfect, but it isnt even close to bad or even average, Hippopotas is an amazing starter to choose from, if you wanna rock Late Game.
